Afib and menopause

I was told going off estrogen can cause palpitations. I’ve been on it long enough, but I’m afraid to stop for fear of triggering my paroxysmal afib. What are some of your experiences?

I have finally been given oestrogen and feel 100% better than I did. Do you need to stop?

I have been on HRT for 30 years and have no intention of stopping. But I have had a hysterectomy so do not need to take the progesterone element, have always has patches and now take the lowest dose 25 mg. If you come off you may well experience other symptoms of low oestrogen as well even hot flushes. You will no longer have the protection oestrogen gives against osteoporosis, colorectal cancer and possibly dementia. Why do you want to come off?

Doctors in the states think you should only be on for a certain period after which they think there is higher risks if heart disease and breast cancer. I too have had hysterectomy but still have ovaries. My aunt is in her 80s and she says “as long as i feel good i will stay on because i felt so bad when i was off.” I think i may agree with her…

It should be the patient' s decision. Doctors can warn about the risk but the patient's QOL should prevail. They removed my ovaries as well. There are higher risks of heart disease and breast cancer if you take that horse pee crap they prescribe over there. But studies have shown for transdermal bio identical oestrogen there is marginal risk.

It must be a pill. The patches come in mcg.I think Premarin was the name of the horse pee oestrogen.

Instead of trying to help by offering what works for you, be it menopause or Covid, you insist that you know the answer and criticize those that don't hold the same view as you. Please remember that everyone's experience is different and nobody wants to be told that their opinion is wrong. We are all here to learn, Be kind.

My doctor wanted me to reduce my dose, which I did over two years. When they asked for me to reduce dose again, the hot flashes came back and my AF got worse. I am staying on my current dose for now. I only take .5 mg a day of estradiol. No progesterone for my since I had a hysterectomy years ago.

I am 56. I had a hysterectomy at 36 because of fibroids. I started to go into menopause in mid-40's. I have been on estrogen for 11 years. I started at 2 mg/day. That is a lot, but my hot flashes were EVERY 5 minutes. I couldn't do ANYTHING. No sleep, no nothing. After two weeks on 2 mg, I was myself again. After 8 years, they asked me to move down my dose. I am at .5 mg now and still feel great. I won't go lower for now.
