Hi I’ve had AF for a number of years now but it seems to be controlled by bisoprolol apart from my Apple Watch telling me I’m in AF which I wouldn’t have realised. Anyway blood tests have shown I’m very low in B12 and vit d and anaemic and I’ve been feeling dizzy, tired and my ankles and feet swelling up and breathless walking so dr sent me for chest X-ray. When asking if results are back the receptionist gave me them and it said enlarged heart and dr just says see a cardiologist and have an echocardiogram. I don’t think I should have been given them without seeing a dr. My problem is we have booked to go to Sorrento in two weeks and my insurance will not cover me until I get a fit to fly. I am going to ring round desperately today to see if I can pay privately as there’s no way il get seen by Nhs. In time Does anyone know anything re this as it’s also really frightened me?

enlarged heart
Enlarged heart and breathlessness would make Congestive Heart Failure my first thought . Are you experiencing any swelling or weight gain? Many other conditions can cause this and if you are acutely symptomatic you need seen by a cardiologist before taking a trip. You need further diagnosis and treatment in any case. Best, etheral
Sorrento will still be there whether you go or not. Rotten as it may seem, if I was in your position I'd put my health first. If you can't get insurance I wouldn't travel, even for a short break. My last visit abroad.was only for two days in northern France, in 2018, to pay homage to my uncle on the centenary of his death in the 1st world war, but I wouldn't have gone had I been unable to get insurance.
You might need injections to get your B12 levels back up and that might well improve a whole range of issues and symptoms. In fact, that might be the main issue, so don't get too worried as so much that happens is reversible given proper treatment.
Vitamin D can also be boosted, and more easily by tablets. An enlarged heart is quite a common finding, I believe, and I don't think you should worry too much, but that is easy to say. The echo-cardiogram will tell your doctor much more useful information.
Your GP should be able to advise on how safe it is to travel and then you can get your travel insurance, without which, I certainly wouldn't travel.

Hi
Your Dr can give you B12 injection.
Although I opted to take B12 SOLGAR GOLD TOP daily until I was retested.
I read that oldies should be high on B12 so my level is now 700.
In 2 weeks my B12 went from 300 - 700 so it works.
Buy the 1000ug sublingual nugget and dissolve uner your tongue.SOLGAR.
I was diagnosed with deficient in 2010. 2 weeks will get you out of deficient, anaemia etc.
Put mushrooms and tomatoes out in sun which will help your Vit D. Sit outside.
I have an enlarged back chamber showing on my ECHO 2021.
AF controlled but still have an irregular heart beat, a soft systollc heart murmur.
If Dr says no to travel you should get your monies back.
You need to think carefully. Your decision.
Take care. JOY. 74. (NZ)
