Shoukd I get another

I am a 69-year-old male that has been struggling with a fib for about eight years. I had my first ablation eight years ago didn't work. Had my second ablation about two months later that didn't work in about a year later I had my third ablation that did not work. I moved to Texas got a new EP. The new doctor suggested put me on Tykosyn which worked great for three years. Felt great no shortness of breath and in SINUS rythum. Unfortunately, I had a hernia operation and the doctor noticed I had a very long QT range on my ekg. my EP doctor immediately took me off Tykosyn and I went back into a fib. During this time I contracted Covid in about three or four months later I ended up having complete heart block and heart failure was rushed to the hospital and they put a pacemaker in at first they put a two lead pacemaker, but a month later my EP said I needed a three lead pacemaker. My BPM is 80 steady and 100% pacemaker Dependent. Total heart block. But now I am on metoprolol with a BPM steady at 80 It goes up when I exercise to 120 comes back down at night time if I rest more than 20 minutes it goes down to 60. However, I have some shortness of breath . I went to one of the top doctors in the country for an ablation for my fourth ablation, it did not work. Since then, I've had some liver issues and have portal vein Hypertension could be from my heart aflutter. I have developed a fatty liver and I have heart failure. The doctors also noticed some stiffness in my heart and my liver, and I was wondering if anybody out there or ever heard of too many ablations can cause more stiffness in your heart. The jury is out if the heart is affecting the liver or vice versa. I a 50% ejection fraction. Which is normal. I was wondering if anybody had an issue like mine. I'm tentatively scheduled to get it another ablation with the same top doctor to try to knock out the Aflutter which may or may not help me and my liver issues. So my other question is is it worth getting a fifth ablation to knock out that a flutter to stop the digressing of the livers. I now have nonalcoholic preserve cirrhosis of the liver. Stage 3

I have lost 15 pounds I really don't feel that bad and can walk 5000 steps without being totally out of breath but sometimes when I get up too fast, I can't walk 10 steps especially for Todd outside.

So my question is do I get that fifth ablation to fix the liver and possibly help with my shortness of breath and help heal or at least stop the damage of my liver. i'm currently on interest in Sorrento and metoprolol.

All your issues are way outside my pay grade but hopefully there will be some helpful replies from US members. I have know idea if it is possible, but I see you are from Texas. We often hear about the Wolf Mini Maze procedure carried out by Dr Wolf in Houston. Might be worth at least exploring….good luck!

I got fatty liver and gave up the red meat for a year i am prone to it slightly i would say ask your cardiologist about stiffness with ablations i do however have stiffness in my left ventricle that caused my heart to fail..But that was not a result of an ablation that i had 5 years earlier that was an enlarged heart..

Fatty liver is not caused by eating red, however can be caused by medications.

thank you for responding. Do you have a fib? What came first? Fatty liver or stiffness of heart?

Yes i do t had mild thickening of the heart before the fatty liver the heart failure was about 6 years in the making i guess yes i have permanent AF it came 3 months after heart failure..

All I can contribute is that an ablation for AFlutter is usually much more straightforward and successful than that for AFibrillation if that helps.Good luck!

Thank you! Good news aflutter easier to knock out!!

It is like breaking an electric circuit I was told, laying a line across. Flutter goes round and round in a circle, whereas Fibrillation just quivers and shakes randomly ! X

The ablations are all within the atria so will not affect the ventricles.

people above 65 got some degree of stiffness of the heart . Your fatty cirrhosis of the liver is secondary to the heart condition or other non heart related conditions . I am not sure at all that another ablation will resolve the issue. Your health issues are very intricate and tough to deal with. A liver transplant can be ruled out given the heart condition. Best wishes

I’m aware of the heart, particularly the ventricular function, affecting the kidneys but I’m not aware of a connection to liver health. You’ll need specialist advice on this.

I wouldn’t rely on an ablation to “treat” cirrhosis of the liver. You need to take your liver health seriously in its own right. I know that from my dad’s experience of carcinoma/cirrhosis of the liver, this disease requires very careful management as it is a truly horrendous disease. Obviously if you can halt its progression it is going to make a huge difference to your quality of life and prolong your lifespan.

In the UK, the British Liver Trust are a very good source of information for all conditions of the liver, and they even do ‘Love Your Liver’ roadshows. Their website is very informative and they also have a forum on Health Unlocked, so those are two resources that are free to use regardless of where you are in the world.
