I have been taking Edoxaban for just over a year. Two weeks after starting taking them I noticed watery blood in my spit. I mentioned it to my gp and he said it was probably due to the Edoxaban but he did not seen concerned.I don’t have a cough so not coughing up blood. Do anyone else have this problem?

See a dental hygienist.

I have seen my dentist but he didn’t seem over concerned about it either. I have a two month wait before I can get another appointment with my gp and three months before I can get a dentist appointment. To get an appointment is so difficult at the moment.

I wouldn't be happy in your situation, is it much watery blood that you spit up and is it there constantly? I think I'd want to try a different anticoagulant.

That's shocking that you have to wait so long to see your GP. Are they short of staff in the practise? I call my doctors surgery at 8am, then a few hours later a doctor calls me back, has a chat and will decide if they need to see me that day.

I wonder why it's so different from one GP's surgery to another? I'm guessing you may live in a highly populated area?

Sorry you have this worry.

Thank you for your comments. I live in a small town and have never had problems with our doctor or dentist surgeries. This all happened when Covid appeared. There are 8/10 doctors at our surgery but it’s still a long wait even for a phone call. I was told unless it’s a life threatening emergency then I can have a phone call next month! Luckily the watery blood is intermittent so they don’t class it as an emergency. As you suggest,I will ask about trying a different blood thinner.

hi Breane. This might be worth try. I had this as well!. I bought Listerine advanced gum defence gum treatment and after using it everyday after brushing I no longer have the problems with bleeding blood in spit.

Hi,thank you for the advice,l will give that a try. I’ve been using Corsodyl mouthwash twice a day.I have had this watery blood for about a year,it’s very intermittent but still a nuisance.

hi. Breane. I used that one and other sorts but only the listerine one works for me. My gums are much stronger for using this particular. I now always keep spare one. Bless, It is a worry taking blood thinners but I can at least get on with Edoxaban. I totally couldn’t use apixaban. It disabled my thigh muscles!! My night leg cramps have stopped too since I’ve upped my daily water with one of these.

I will give Listerine a try. I have been told that taking several different meds can affect the gums. I take Edoxaban,Bisoprolol,Methotrexate,Hydroxychloroquine,Omeprazole and Folic. My gp wants me to start on Statins too so will be quite a mixture of meds.

bless. My sisters take statin they don’t have af but fast pulse I have af….. right pain in the ass it is too! Pretty sure mines connected with digestion. Pretty sure because missing gallbladder! Can’t touch gluten or I’m in hospital with bad af. I find keeping my diet as unprocessed as poss works for me. Also fresh sage leaf tea and Moroccan mint tea helps. Chewing couple bits fresh rosemary calms vagus. Managed to somehow escape too many meds but don’t know for how long! Like you I take bisorolol 2.5 and edoxoban. I take in evening as I used to wake with af but don’t since and sleep very well. All helps me. Hope info helps. Hope you fell better soon Breane ((hugs))
