I believe that there is an experimental procedure using pulsed radiotherapy but by its very nature Radio Frequency is a contact procedure.

Hi

Have you heard about the nasal spray of Diltiazem for those with high pulse bouts of AF?

Unfortunately it would help me on rapid persistence.

But need more samples of experiment done. Seems a great breakthrough which will help and rather than PIP.

*radiation does so much damage, Pulsing sounds much better.

I've got my first ablation next Friday (strikes pending) at St Barts in London and they're using RF Frequency. This is a form of non-ionising radiation, so like in the microwave range of the spectrum.

Just used to heat up the end of the catheter to cause the burn and create the scars. Once the only form of catheter ablation. .

Pulse Field Ablation is a shorter, safer procedure than RF with similar results and is available now in the UK and Europe, but it still uses catheters to enter the heart. They are exploring treating from the outside, using focused radiation and some work has been done with both animal models and humans, but still a long ways to go. Because of the radiation, it will probably be only offered to older folks first :)

sounds an interesting development

Yes, we old folks will not only be old but radioactive. Ah the price for normal sinus rhythm :)

Just a short anecdote Jim. When I was diagn0sed wioth prostate cancer 12 yeasr ago I had to have a bone scan to check if it had spread. I was injected witha radioactive isotope of some kind and told to get lost for two hours while it soaked in.

My wife and i went shopping but soon had to gve up as I set off every anti theft alarm in every shop we passed! All I had to do was wave my hand in front of the sensors and all hell broke loose. Great fun!

Hi there, what specific new treatment are you asking about? Does it have a name?

thejepo profile image

pulse field ablation is what it’s called

thejepo profile image

Apols one is micro pulsed electric field and pulsed field ablation which might both be the same or one might be less intrusive
