Whilst on holiday in Gran Canaria, I required an emergency DC cardioversion for my AF.
My policy with AllClear has an agreed pre-existing condition for paroxysmal AF. The company use a Canadian company working for Zurich Assist. If you have a policy with this insurer do yourself a favour and make sure you can access emergency cardiac care before you go on holiday without having to prepay the hospital with a large unplanned prepayment in order to receive emergency care.
The assistance company failed to provide emergency medical care at all as per the policy and I was forced to pay the hospital directly before a DC cardioversion could be performed. I waited 18 hours and the company did absolutely nothing to help. They caused delays. They stalled a decision to proceed with care on spurious grounds.
I can’t determined whether this is normal practice for AF patients needing emergency cardiac care but I would not recommend being left in a hospital being assisted by the company. Under any circumstances.
Could anyone recommend an insurer and have used the policy to get care abroad with an agreed pre-existing condition for AF?
Thanks
