Has anyone experienced a conversion pause when coming out of AF- like a brief second or two of syncope with a visual disturbance & a strange quite frightening feeling This has started after having to come of Flecainide as it was causing other arrhythmias.

conversion pause
I have pauses regularly several times a week sometimes. They seem to come in clusters. I had a nasty one yesterday out of the blue while at the hairdressers very unnerving and with the symptoms you describe. My EP seems unconcerned, cant say I feel the same way but then its me experiencing them not him.
From what I read here over the years that is not uncommon. I think the heart [pauases for maybe two or three beats as it resets.
yes! I have this frequently (much too frequent) the doctor indicated it was ‘normal’. I find it terrifying. I am sorry, but at the same time relieved, hearing of others experiencing this.
As long as it’s short you’re ok. If longer, say 5 secs, you should be assessed because you may need a pacemaker. I would report it anyway just in case.
yes I have experienced these pauses when moving from Afib to NSR. My experience of this pause depends on several factors. Mostly dependent on the rate my heart is at when I slip back into NSR. If it is higher (above say 93 bpm) and drops to say 55 I get what I call my “swirly head” that lasts for a couple of seconds. If I’m lying down or my Afib rate is lower I don’t notice the change so much but am always glad to be back in NSR!
These pauses are terrifying & have appeared since stopping Flecainide which had kept me controlled for years. So I’m going for pace & ablate for quality of life which should stop the pauses too
