Pause episodes

I have been on a holster monitor for 29 days and according to the cardiac tech I've had two Brady pause episodes lasting 5 secs. My resting heart rate has always been in the low 50's, even high 40's. I do about 6 hours of cardio a week. I have no symptoms, so I think they are not certain i need a pacemaker. Has anyone experienced this and what was the end result?

Were the 5 second pauses while you were asleep?

I’ve had pauses of 3 seconds which made me feel lightheaded. My beta blocker dose was reduced, and the problem settled. If I get symptomatic heart block again, but not related to medication, I will definitely be considering a pacemaker.

The issues around driving and falling while on anticoagulants, would decide that. The rules about driving and symptomatic heart block are rightly very strict in the UK. Plus the implications of motor insurance being invalidated if the condition is not reported and investigated by a cardiologist.

Hi Oyster,

My two pauses were during the day and lasted 5 secs each, but I have no symptoms at all.

I'm amazed you don't get any symptoms when you get a pause, it would usually cause at least a fluttering sensation, I get lightheaded and almost black out if it's a bad one.

Do keep us updated on the holter results, be interesting to hear if you get any treatment.

I get pauses 24/7 my usual pattern is every 3 or 5 beats I get a brief pause, holter showed 4 atrial salvos, despite awful symptoms I've not been offered any treatment.

If you aren't getting any symptoms you probably won't need anything doing, how did you come to have a 29 day holter ?

Thanks Bantam 12, I still have one day remaining on the holter. I don't have any symptoms, but certainly the two pauses are reasons for concern. It's conceivable they may not recommend a pacer unless I have symptoms. Very confusing and frustrating.
