I had an ASD repair at age 12 and just last year I was diagnosed with afib at age 65. I'm wondering if anyone has also had an ASD repair and had an ablation. I've heard it can be more complicated. I just can't find any information on it and the EP I spoke with just said he could do it. It didn't really make me feel confident about having it done.

ASD Repair and Ablation
I don’t understand your question?
During an ablation a hole is punched through the septum to gain access to the left atria - similar to a Atrial Septum Hole which sometimes needs to be repaired during childhood IF there is leakage through the hole, This hole normally heals naturally.
I have a PFO - which was only found during ablation so they used that to access the LA. It was checked and no repair was considered necessary. 25% of the population have a PFO and may not know they have.
What is your concern? What exactly do you want to know?
I was told my my cardiologist and my GP that it is more complicated to have an ablation when you've had an ASD repair. I don't understand what that means and why but of course it is a concern and the reason I would want to be sure that my EP has done them before. I would like to hear from anyone that has had an ASD repair and an ablation and what their experience was?
Then I would ask your EP/GP why is it more complicated?
