Had the cryo ablation in James Cook in Middlesborough on Tuesday. Was a bit anxious but went OK. It lasted 2 hours but now I cant remember much about it other than them pacing my heart a little and the ice cream headache
Discharge letter states PVI x4 and no return after 15mins - not sure what the last bit means.
Continuing with the current Flecainide, Bisoprolol a Apixiban until I see the EP in 3 months
Chest still a bit sore but fingers crossed

I've only ever had RF ablations x 3, but I know that after the first two I felt completely washed out for weeks.
After the third I felt better almost immediately, but before leaving hospital the next day, my heart took off racing and I was kept in another day until it went back into sinus rhythm. Then my heart took off again about 4 weeks after that and I went back for a cardioversion.
Just the build up and stress of the procedure is enough to wear you out. As Bob has said rest now and don't go thinking you're cured and can do anything you want. It may take weeks to feel energetic and totally better. Do not attempt to do anything that requires any effort in this first week. Then take some little walks in the second week. I found I stupidly did too much with the walking, felt fit to go anywhere, but no energy whatsoever to walk back.
I have to stop taking flecainide after 6 weeks, I wonder why you're taking it for 3 months? Everyone's circumstances are different I suppose, or different consultants have different strategies.
My EP keeps us on for 6 months full.meds, then half for 6 months. New research suggests retrain the heart into nsr after so long out of it. Soon I will dose down
Hmm...I have paroxysmal AF and can go weeks, or even months with NSR, so for the majority of the time I'm in NSR. Perhaps that's the reason, but it's clear there are different strategies regarding medication post ablation.
Have you been told to gradually reduce or drop? I'd be inclined to reduce very gradually, your heart is used to the support and you don't want to shock it
I've copied and pasted this from my discharge notes so that there's no mistake.
"He has been advised to continue medications as current till further outpatient review scheduled with Dr Temple after 3 months, except for Flecainide which can be stopped after 6 weeks."
I've just come back today from my short break, so stopped taking the flecainide this morning. If I feel anything at all, I'll phone the arrythmia nurse to see what she says.
The bit of chest pain is normal and will go away in a couple of days. Essential thing is to 'do nowt' for a week - seriously- Bob says sofa and TV remote! Then walking around the house a little week 2 but no bending. I kicked my heart off ablation #2 by bending over a washbasin and brushing my teeth. Still in Sinus rhythm now though...
I had my Af ablation on Wednesday and feel just the same. I have just read Bob’s leaflet and found it so useful as I was wondering why I had sore throat and bad head! Good luck with your recovery and the box sets 😊
