short afib runs 3 months post ablation

Hello,

I had my ablation Jan 27th, unfortunately I am still having short runs of afib at times and experienced significant migraine headaches postop so I’m not in a hurry to repeat the procedure. Has anyone had success after 3 months? My EP doesn’t think it will settle much further. Unfortunately I seem to get side effects from the antiarythmic or too bradycardic.

Your ep may be correct. Maybe you can try another daily anti arrythmic until you decide whether to have another ablation. But if episodes are not too frequent and short, maybe you only need to take a rate lowering drug as PIP (When needed). Sometimes just lowering afib burden can define an ablation as a success.

Obviously you must listen to your EP because he knows more about your heart than anyone. From what we hear from many on the forum, things often improve over time so 3 months is not really that long. Here in the UK, first reviews used to be after 3 months but reviews are now generally after six months so try and be a bit more patient. It would be interesting to know which type of ablation you had as there are two, a Cryoablation or RF (radio frequency) ablation………

It was RF

My ablation on 2019 fro atrial flutter solved that but since I have had what you are having, and also become bradycardic easily with too much betablocker. Luckily, at present, 1.25mg bisoprolol seems to be working for me and lowers my resting rate to around 48bpm or so.

Just give it some time. I had an easy ride for the first 6 weeks after ablation, but then troubles kicked in and I had problems intermittently for 9 months. I had concluded that it was a 'fail'. However, I'm now 13 months past my last event, and still no recurrence. So maybe it's a 'success'? Nothing is forever. Give it more time, you might be well yet.

My 3 months post ablation went ok..no new AFib episodes, though headaches were prevalent for me as well. Once they took me off the meds after 3 months, AFib episodes came back and PIP seemed to be slower to work. So went back in the meds, a higher dose of Flec, and am now looking at a second ablation. My EP said same as yours, that most likely if I had AFib episodes after 3 months then it prob didn't work .. many here have docs that give it longer..6 to 9 months? But my Ep took me off meds at 3 months.

Not what you're looking for?
