Amoxcillin
Hi Ssuegos,
I hope you mis-stated to dose of digoxin!
I am not aware of dig-amox interactions.
Antibiotics do disturb your microbiome, which can adversely affect how you feel. If ok with your MD, you might consider adding a probiotic or at least consume a probiotic-enriched yoghurt with your diet during and after the antibiotic course.
I used to work for Beecham Research Labs who discovered amoxicillin many years ago. It was considered one of the safest of all antibiotics at the time so I wouldn't worry, especially given the reassurances you have by competent people. The only main issue with penicillin (of which amoxicillin is one) in general is that a few people can develop severe allergies to them. I feel sure that you will not have this as it will have shown well before now.

I'm on digoxin and have taken amoxicillin twice since December for dental issues. I had no problem combining these medications.
Thanks for reply ,you have put my mind at rest, this digoxin thing is very new to me ,how do you find them x
I've been on digoxin for about 3 years since going into permanent afib. It works well for me and I haven't noticed any apparent side effects. I hope it works for you!
Hi Judy
Also a permanent afib person, tell me about digoxin. Does it adequately control your heart rate, rhythm, and provide any chance of returning to NSR ?
I am on Metoprolol which controls my rate (70's-low 80's) but always looking for something better.
Hi - between .125 mg digoxin along with 50 mg. of extended release metoprolol per day, my heart rate is well controlled (usually in the 60s a 70s) although NSR is a distant memory. I've had a pacemaker since 2019 which indicates that I'm in afib 100% of the time but I actually feel better and have more energy than when I had sudden, intense bouts of afib. I really don't notice my irregular heartbeat unless I take my pulse. Since 2017, I've been though an ablation, several cardioversions, various medications including flecainide and tikosyn but none of these kept me in NRS for very long.
Hi Sue
Just seen your post .
I also take Digoxin the lowest dose and was prescribed Amoxicillin for chest infection .
When started taking Amoxicillin my heart started to go really fast and felt breathless so rang 111 and they sent two paramedics who checked me out and said I was fine ( I have Dilated Cardiomyopathy and heart failure )
They went off and rang my Doctors surgery and Doctor said to continue taking Amoxicillin it’s fine to do this which I did and finished the course but it definitely did raise my heart rate at the time .
My heart rate did calm down and finished the course .
Have you started to take Amoxicillin yet ?
Hope your chest infection has cleared up now and your feeling better.
Hi ,thanks for your reply ,do hope all has settled for you now,I take digoxin for af, yes I have started taking the amoxcillin Monday evening, hoping it will be OK,early days to kick in but hope it does soon and gets rid of the chest infection makes you feel very poorly doesn't it,take care sue x
