I was taken off amlodipine some months ago and put on extra bisoprolol because I had swollen painful ankles. Later my cardiologist became concerned that.my dosage of bisoprolol was too high 7.5 mg and reduced it to 5. My blood pressure became high again and I was prescribed amlodipine again. This did wonders for my BP but of course my ankles are swollen again. Going round in circles. I have been advised to raise my legs but I am not in a position to sit around all day with my legs in the air.Any suggestions? I also take statins ramipril and spironolactone.

Amlodipine
Calcium chanel blockers will tend to do that I'm afraid and I had to stop amlodipine for the same reason I was switched to indapamide which worked very well until I lost weight, changed my lifstyle and no longer had high BP.
DIltiazem is a CCB that lowers blood pressure and slows heart rate. If tolerated, you might be able to replace amlodipine and bisoprolol with diltiazem alone.
Thanks. There are many medications which nearly all have some side effects and it is really a case of finding the right ones that do most good and least harm. For instance when I was switched to indapemide I ended up in a&e being pumped full of potassium. I will ask the quack about diltiazem and also digoxin but I notice that they don't suit everybody. I simply don't see the point of being represcribed something that has already given me grief.
I had been on AmlodipA
Support socks? If it’s only your ankles swelling then it is partly a circulation issue hence the ‘put your feet up’ advice.
Been on both not at the same time still on Amlodipine but need a med change as my kidneys are not great. Lots of walking lots of fluids may help. I do about 8000 a day. Good luck
5 mg Amlodipine has worked well for me but 7.5 mg caused significant swelling. I take also 5 mg Benzopril, and low dose of Clonidine. My situation is more complicated because i have AFIB and a pacemaker. But both bp and AFIB are well controlled. Also take Metoprolol and low dose of Propafenone for AFIB. Do you have AFIB and bp issues? Does your Dr think that you may be having additional swelling issues with other 2 meds, compounding the issue? Is he open to your trying other meds?
I say this because my Dr is going to redo my bp regimen. I will let you know what he will propose. I'm sure our situations are different. I would suggest doing your own research and make some proposals to your Dr. That's what i usually end up doing and it seems to work well with my Drs.
Good luck to you!! BP issues sometimes are very difficult to solve.

Hi, I was on amlodipine but ended up with swollen ankles. Changed to Lercanidipine (10mg bd) and within two days no more swollen ankles and BP perfect. Don’t know why you were given extra dose of Bisoprolol. I am on Flecainide (50mg od) and Bisoprolol (5mg bd) plus Apixaban (5mg od). I would speak to your GP again. Good luck.
gosh well à l’iPod ine made my ankles and feet noticeably swell and most uncomfortable so I sympathize with you. Horrible tablet.
I’ve been in losarten since and I’m told it’s a well tolerated blood pressure tablet. Instantly no swollen ankles. Why not ask your doc about losarteni inow a few folk taking it .
