Hello everyone

So many were reassuring and kind after my first week to ten days of hell after my ablation that I wanted to give you a follow up at now 12 weeks.

History reminder I was previously Paf with no beta blockers just apixiban. Episodes were light burden every 6 weeks or so during the night lasting 4-7 hours - ie manageable. Went for the ablation which I’d waited for for ever, in fear and trepidation (it was absolutely fine for those worrying as I did) GA, overnight stay then home. Every day for the following week to ten days I had terrible bouts of afib feeling very sorry for myself, was this going to be my life etc. day 12 or 14 I started on Bisoprolol 1.25mg and didn’t, and haven’t, had another episode since. I also stopped the Bisop myself at 6 weeks and all good.

however and there is always a however! I’m back to walking my 12,000 steps a day. I find my heart rate can spike as today up to 167 bpm then down again. My cardio at review said heart rate after ablation increases for about a year and then settles. Has anyone found this? ? Is it safe? Cardio didn’t seem bothered and more or less said ride it through, but rate seems very high and makes me anxious about fast walking again. And being too far from home.

Finally, I want to say I’m very grateful to have had the ablation and also thank you to everyone who cheered me up and encouraged me at the beginning. Also I hope this reassures anyone frightened of the ablation itself. There is no need. You couldn’t be worse than I was.

Happy Easter! xx

Yes we explain about raised HR post ablation in our fact sheet on recovery which I know I have signposted many times. Typically some where resting around 85-90 is common. Regarding your exercise rate I advise throwing away your gadgets and going on how you feel. It really is a much better measure! Enjoy life please.

Thanks Bob and for getting back so quickly. I must have missed that about increased hr. Will it go back after time?

Haha about gadgets! I like having them but your right they can get out of hand.

What are you using to measure your HR when it is very high.I would only be confident using Polar HR strap or Kardia.I where both a Huawei fit watch & a Fitbit .Not obsession but one syncs better with my slimming app. They both show different rates!I also use fibricheck on my phone if I feel bad. Also 6.5 weeks post ablation & monitoring my excercise tolerance.Scientific not obsessive honestly.

haha No I wear my trusty Apple Watch which records my Afib episodes (consultant approves) and also a newish Fitbit Inspire to replace old one. It’s the Fitbit that recorded the 167. Sometimes it’s in synch with the watch but often not and I trust Apple more. Im going to leave it off for a while (Fitbit) as it robs me of my confidence of having had no afib since 2nd feb. Congrats on your 6.5 weeks ! Happy Easter Day!
