5 Weeks Post Ablation

Well I am now 5 weeks post ablation. For the most part I have been doing really good. But today I had a couple strange episodes. My heart was pretty active (ectopics) all morning. Then out of no where I starting having a strange feeling in my chest. So I grabbed my Kardia and took a reading. My heart went from 69 bpm to 135 in a split second and stayed going crazy for a little bit but calmed down before the 30 sec lapsed. I sent it to my EP’s office and the nurse had the nurse practitioner look at it. She replied to my email to only say “sinus rhythm”. Call me stupid but what does that mean? And if it’s normal it sure didn’t feel that way. I know I am still healing but that just didn’t feel right. I don’t know what to think....

You poor thing. It's all so scary, isn't it. I have had a few of those, but others on here say it's common during the "three month blanking" period. Half the problem is we are do tuned into our heart's now that we notice every blip.

As I said before - cardionoia! But it's still scary when it happens coz you obviously fear the worse.

Hope it's okay from here onwards xx

Thank you so much. It seems to have passed . Was definitely a scary moment. I try not to get worried or stress about it but it is really hard. Especially when I have had a good couple of weeks.

Telling yourself not to worry is like telling yourself not to think of a monkey, isn't it! You think of it more 🤣🤣🤣🤣

That is so the truth 😂😂

That’s why it’s called Monkey Brain - seriously!

As we explain in the fact sheet heartrhythmalliance.org/res... you will have these sorts of things for quite some time yet. If it was sinus rhythm it may well have been a little fast but that is not unexpected. Try not to worry as it will only make things worse. Your heart has a whole lot more healing to, do yet a while.

Stay well hydrated, eat healthily and RELAX. Oh yes and lock the Kardia in a drawer so you are not tempted to keep checking.

Thank you for your advice! And I may just do that to my Kardia lol. Just a rough day but I will make it through it! 😊

Even normal, heart healthy people can experience extra beats. I wonder if that's what you recorded and why your AF nurse said it was sinus rhythm - meaning a perfectly normal beat.

Thank you for your response. Her answer confused me because that’s the only two words she said . I asked her what does that mean but she has not responded yet. I am not gonna worry about it. Am hoping tomorrow is a better day. 😊

It's normal to have errant beats after ablation, even short bursts of AFIB. You might be one of the people who shouldn't have a Kardia .... as it appears you are only escalating your anxiety. Put it away for awhile as you're healing . . .

I hope you can busy your mind with something else - I always feel better when distracted. A good book or tv programme or a task I enjoy helps me. Keep keeping on 👍

I have had two ablations, September last year being the last one and all went well until about January when my heart started to miss a beat now and then ( I check my BP and heart beat regularly). Slowly my heart rate went up to around 90 per min constantly. Further checks with the Consultant and tests showed the AF was ok but I had developed Atrial Flutter. Heart beat quite strange so now will have a Pacemaker fitted next Friday which should sort out both AF and Flutter.

Maybe you need to speak to your Consultant rather than a nurse

Best of luck

Dave

Morning. I didn't think a pacemaker elped afib or flutter. Let's hope I'm wrong. I thought it was for slow heart rate.

I'm 6 weeks post ablation and been having the pulse surges from week 4. I'm now using Diltiazem as a PIP which seems to have steadied things. Arrhythmia nurse said it's normal but they didnt want my pulse going as high as it was for a sustained period of time.

Thank you for your response, it makes me feel better about what happened to me. The highest mine got was 135bpm and lasted only seconds.

I had moments of brief high rate about the same as yourself, usually early morning, but then I was getting them for longer periods during the day. According to my Fitbit data, one day I spent over 6 hours across the day, where my pulse was over 100 but I was at work that day.

We’re you exhausted after you got home?

I went back to work 2 weeks ago after 4 weeks off and, even with reduced hours, I was shattered from that and dealing with all the pulse shenanigans. This week has been much better so hopefully, it will be settling down. 😊.

I pray that it gets better for you soon. After a day of my heart being pretty active I get really exhausted. As if I ran a marathon lol. I have been doing pretty good but yesterday it was extra active. I have hopes that after my first 3 months have passed it will go away

Your heart can still jump around like that during the blanking period, i.e. 3-month period after an ablation. My ablation was the end of April and I now and then have ectopics and short periods of rapid heartbeats. My EP said it's normal during this time.

Thank you! Sounds like we had ours about the same time. Your post makes me feel better too. I am going to try and not think about my heart as much. Which I know is sometimes hard to do 😊. Gonna go with the flow!

Good idea! Try to stay calm and know that what's happening is normal!

I had an ablation on the 17th may 21 and went into atrial flutter fir about 30 hrs my cardiology team when I rang not interested said see your go. My Kardia showing atrial fibulation plus numerous ectopic. Eventually gave in and called my out of hours GP whose had 2 ablation himself and got sorted by doubling my beta blocker dose. Stressful time all round so I understand your situation

It sounds as if she meant normal sinus rhythm.ie your heart may be beating fast but it's not irregular.
