Try taking taking your medication mid meal and see if that helps, that's what I do.

Rock and a hard place. I'm there too. Right now on 60mg Daily Dexilant, the strongest PPI. Don't like it but without it I get reflux and reflux puts me into afib. Have you tried Mylanta? Sometimes helps. Some people say Alginates, like Gaviscon help, but they didn't with me. Then there are dietary interventions like smaller meals, a low FODMAP diet and not eating to close to bedtime. And lifestyle changes like losing weight and elevating the head of your bed.

PPIs (the 'azole drugs) are really bad news and tend to be self perpetuating so should really only be taken short term.

The machanics are as follows. The lower sphincter in the stomach needs an acid environment to open and pass food down into the gut. Remove the acid and the stomach doesn't empty meaning even more reflux.

Your GP sounds on the ball for a change. Most refreshing!

I was having reflux issues also, that were triggering AF, and for me the "cure" was taking digestive enzymes, a capsule with each meal. Also increased my intake of pineapple for the bromelain. Problem was solved--I was able to get off the omeprazole totally. (I take Garden of Life Omega-Zyme Ultra, from health food stores, because it has higher amounts of the enzymes to digest proteins, carbs, and fats. Check the labels of other brands, because some have very minimal amounts.) I happen to also have ulcerative colitis, which can impair absorption of nutrients, so that is another reason I felt I needed help thoroughly digesting all types of foods. Best wishes for improving your health, Diane S.

Very interesting about the pineapple, I noticed a big improvement in my reflux if I ate pineapple every day. Recently I couldn’t get one so ate other fruit instead. Soon the pain was so bad I nearly had to ask to see the GP as an emergency but Gaviscon relieved it enough to wait for my pineapple supply to arrive!

Hi Buffafly, And I have to admit, I've used canned pineapple if I can't get fresh. It sees to work fine... the kind without added sugar in the juice. But there is sure no substitute for the taste of fresh pineapple!! Makes me feel like I'm in Florida :-). Diane S.

I would find an experienced Alternative Practitioner to consult over stomach acid. The stomach is so important for many issues incl AF and is rarely given a priority. No doubt will be some trial and error but far better in the long term.

I second the digestive enzymes recommendation! They have helped me enormously.
