Reflux before AF & quince remedy

Quite a few writers here have mentioned reflux and although they may or may not be directly connected through stress, the Vagus Nerve and digestion to AF, I certainly suffered from it before my AF was diagnosed. I am a big fan of trying natural remedies which usually take longer but have no side effects, so here is a tip from a usually reliable source that came up on my Twitter feed today:

Quince is Mother Nature’s remedy for reflux, morning sickness & nausea.

Research papers have found that quince is as effective as omeprazole & ranitidine for reflux without any of the icky side effects & it’s safe for older babies, young children as well as during pregnancy.

PS Our quinces quartered and poached were absolutely divine this year!

Very interesting, question is how do you take the quince? I’m on the hunt for a more natural reflux remedy as I don’t think I generally have an excess of acid, it’s more that I possibly have hiatus hernia or a sphincter problem.

I would buy the fruit from an organic farm shop if possible and just do a very gentle poach in a little sugared water and eat without anything else maybe the last part of your meal .......failing that it is ask our friend Google.

I was thinking of a bottled mixture - quinces are as scarce as hens teeth and only available for a short time.

According to Healthline quince syrup is what you need.

I would always favour making your own syrup after taking out of the freezer. Source: abelandcole.co.uk/quince-1k...

I’ve now found many recipes, also organic quince juice/syrup available online. I’ve asked my Mr Buff to look out for quinces in the market 🧐 Thanks for posting 💜

I was very interested in this as I’ve suffered from acid reflux for many years. I’m certainly going to try it but in my research into where I can buy it etc I came across a warning on webMd about when to take it and I quote:

Interactions?

Major Interaction

Do not take this combination

!

Medications taken by mouth (Oral drugs) interacts with QUINCE

Quince contains a type of soft fiber called mucilage. Mucilage can decrease how much medicine the body absorbs. Taking quince at the same time you take medications by mouth can decrease the effectiveness of your medication. To prevent this interaction take quince at least one hour after medications you take by mouth:

It’s good to know and hope it helps.

Very good post thanks Frances! I guess that applies to some other foods as well. Fortunately, as per the instruction leaflet, I never eat anything inside an hour of taking my only pills Flecainide.
