Quite a meaty article and a very welcome one by Shirlene Obuobi

I’m lucky to be training in an era in which there is interest in examining conditions that more commonly affect women. Increased research in sex and gender disparities in cardiovascular disease has led to significant declines in the number of women dying of heart conditions. And while there is still a clear need for further work, I’m hopeful for a future in which women’s cardiovascular health is investigated appropriately.Shirlene Obuobi is a second-year cardiology fellow at the University of Chicago medical center. Her comics about navigating health care appear on her Instagram @ShirlywhirlMD. She is the author of “On Rotation,” a novel about a Ghanaian-American medical student.

Thanks to @Ramilia on the BHF forum for originally posting.

It should be more widely accepted that women and men often present quite differently with the same condition. When I was doing testing with the (now defunct) Cardiocity lap top ecg machine a few years ago I was instructed to inform the machine before use of the gender of each patient as the magnitude of the trace was much smaller for female than male. Forget this non binary *******, they are different! It has also been recognised in some quarters that heart attacks present quite differently in many women, which means these are sometimes not diagnosed. and result in fatalities.

vive la difference.
