Burping a lot then finding I have slipped into AF ……..

Morning everyone,

I woke in the early hours, about 2am, then noticed I was burping a lot and within the hour I noticed I felt ‘strange’, checked my Fitbit af mode and sure enough, there it was ‘Atrial fibrillation detected’.

double checked with my kardia (single lead) and yes, there the little beggar was and it began kicking off good and proper. Pip taken at 3/3.30. Appears to have mostly settled down now.

I think I may have read somewhere that the burping prior to an episode may indicate it’s vagal af?

Also, since starting candesarten I have noticed far more af episodes……anyone else? It us listed as a side effect .

looking forward to everyone’s comments.

I find any upset in my gastric system can trigger afib or svt in me. In some of us the cardiac/gastric connection seems very strong. If a new med isnt suiting you then please see about changing it. Glad things have settled again now.

I mentioned it to the pharmacist this morning, and she is sending a note to the surgery to ring me about my concerns. X

Tilly,

Long shot this...Just wondering if you've had lots of fruit juices recently? I started to have fresh orange juice recently in order to increase iron levels. I found it produced lots of burping...and noticed an increase in frequency of episodes. Hadn't connected the two until reading that the fructose in the juice can be converted to alcohol in the digestive system, which in turn can trigger Afib.

I have changed the mix I have in my morning smoothy, but only this last week. I will keep an eye on things, thank you. Things can be so random x

Thanks interesting! I am on an excellent diet including fruit and burp a lot, thinking why?? Inconvenient at times but I guess it is the body getting rid of the problem before the gas pressure in the gut annoys the Vagus Nerve and we all know where that leads!

Increasingly with diet, I am following my mother's maxim of a little of everything with a bit of what you fancy however it is rated.

that’s what I do, a little if everything, although but the foods I am definitely allergic to. Plus I keep grain intake low x
