What Next??!

Having dealt with the ups and downs with my heart issues and the anxiety re my recent angiogram I thought I was in for a period of relative calm and normality and have made plans for a couple of holidays this year. Now following a recent routine breast screening/mammogram I have received a recall to hospital for further assessment. This has really freaked me out as I am now fearful that I have cancer! Life just seems to throw me one curved ball after another!

Sorry to hear your news. When is your appointment? Let's hope it's something like thickened breast tissue.

Thanks Jean. I had the screening last Monday and the follow up is this coming Thursday 9th so not long to wait.

As we get older, it certainly does feel like Whack a Mole with our health at times! But like Jeannie said, chances are it's something benign, so no use stressing too much now.

You are right. Just got to deal with what I do know rather than what might be. Thanks.

Thank you. Trying to stay positive and not go down the 'what if' route.

I had a call back last time,it was just that the images were not as good as expected.I spent 2 weeks writing farewell letters, yes really! Waste of time🙄

I hope time passes quickly for you and all is well.

Best wishes xxx

Thank you. Since my heart valve replacement nearly 25 years ago the focus has been on the health of my heart so it's a shock to consider there might be something else going on. I question whether the Xrays scans etc put me at risk of getting cancer. Trying not to go down that rabbit hole though!

My late husband always used to say no point in worrying, until you know you have something to worry about. Try not to stress. Best wishes for your follow up appointment.

Your husband was right. Just got to with what I know rather than make negative predictions. Thank you x

Hi

Because it sounds like a more careful look at each breast.

I was recalled and they explained that the breast mammogram

showed calcium clumping.

I ewas given a heap of paracetamol and shown into a room and told to lie on this bed.

A machine took biopsies. I finally halted it as it gone too sore.

Recalled back and with the coathanger route to pinpoint problem.

Under anaesthetic they took a piece out.

Called back to have operation locally. They were gentle and I relaxed as they

put the coathanger in before operation.

I had a carsonoma in situe in a milk duct.

During operation they removed the whole duct and gave me a cross section of the rest. Meanwhile I wrote on the form do not take me breast. Getting married next year!

I have learnt since that they now give you a choice whether to remove that milk duct or leave it there and monitor it. This Irish lady is 93 and still has the carcinoma in her milk duct.

I'm sure the recall s routine and all have to wait to see what changes they see. They compare the last take to this recent one.

Relax and take care.

Cheers JOY. 74. (NZ)

A few years back, I had a mammogram 2 days before we went away on holiday. When we got back there was a letter waiting with an appointment for the next day at the hospital for a recall.I was so scared and when I walked into the room there was an xray of my boob up on the machine which clearly showed a lump. I was then taken through to the consultant who explained that it could or could not be something to be worried about and there and then did a biopsy, which was very simple. She passed a needle through the side of my boob and took a tiny piece of the " lump". It was painless. She said that from how it had reacted when she did this, she didnt think it was cancer but sent it off to be tested. 4 days later she called to say that it had been a cyst. I had been so scared. Apparently these cysts are common, so please try not to worry until you have something to worry about, easier said than done I know. I dont know how your letter was worded but possibly it may just be that the original scan wasnt clear enough and they just need to do another?. Good luck.

My wife was in this situation a couple of times. Mostly, I think over 80% if I recall, of what they find is harmless, but the fears are always 100% terrible!

I found a lump years ago but turned out it was just fat 😒. Friend had a recall and hers turned out to be calcium deposits. Easy to sat, but try not to worry.

Thank you. It is reassuring to hear. X

My youngest daughter went through something similar a few weeks ago. She was more laid back about it than I was. Thankfully it was fatty tissue with her as well. On a positive note my younger sister had a mastectomy 25 years ago and is still doing well. Sending love and positive thoughts to you. xxx

That happened to me. I was told that only one in ten recalls turn out to be cancer. Mine wasn’t and hopefully yours won’t be either. Good luck!

It is scary when you get called back as I was. Mine was s imply cysts. Remember the majority are nothing to worry about. Maybe it was just a poor picture.

Have had various lumps and bumps in my boob going back to the 1980s.It is perfectly true the majority of recalls are for getting a clearer picture or aspirating an innocuous cyst. If it does turn out to be something nasty in the woodshed I have to say as an ancient crone that breast cancer ( there I've said it) is very very treatable and the support is second to none, as 30 years after first lump I did get a cancer diagnosis and am fit and well. All biopsies etc were painless for me, though a student observing fainted!! Best wishes.

Hello Daisyblu. I cannot, of course, know what the 9th will bring for you, but I can add my story to others. I was recalled a few years back and spent 10 days in utter despair. When I went back in and they repeated the scan, there was nothing there. She said sometimes the way the breast compresses on the plates can cause a shadow. Thinking of you with fingers crossed.

It's quite common to o be called back if the images are unclear. It happened to me and I was fine, try not to worry, easier said than done though xx
