I found that magnesium citrate made my stomach sore and it took me ages to realise it was that. I now take Magnesium Glycinate, which I order online from YourSupplements. It was recommended to me by another member on this forum.

Like Jean, I don’t take magnesium citrate either, I also take magnesium glycenate. I buy Nutri Adanced ones in 120 tabs at a time. You can buy them direct from Nutri Adavanced or from other various suppliers in the UK on line.

Hi Britta,

Like Steve said, they don’t stop it, but they are ( I think) helpful and can be calming and I think have helped my episodes overall. It would be a good idea too to at some point to ask for a blood test to check magnesium levels, though they say most of us are quite low in magnedium generally.

I started off with the Nutri advanced, a couple a day, one morning and one in evening about an hour before bed. If you feel ok on that after a week or so you can up it and I would advise upping at 50mg a time ( half a tablet), as you can break them in half easily. The recommendation fir a woman is 350mg a day, but I admit I now take more than that and I don’t think I’m unusual in doing that, but I don’t take loads more - about 420mg magnesium in total. I take magnesium taurate as well during the day from another brand and mix that with these 😊 so this adds up to the 420mg in total, but everyone does different things. I’d start in this first and see how you go before you start mixing though. I take 200mg of these now, an hour or so before bed ( they can help sleep) and I take magnesium after breakfast, lunch and evening now but as I said, start twice a day is my recommendation.

They are large though and can feel a bit tricky sometimes to swallow but they seem to disintegrate fast. I find breaking them in half helps with that.

Good luck,

X

No oral magnesium has ever been shown to stop arrhythmias, despite its popularity. But... it's safe and well worth trying since some find it helpful. Its safety is because so little is actually absorbed and any excess is excreted - hence it has a laxative effect in excess.

All forms citrate, oxide, taurate and so on have been shown to be equally well absorbed, some a little bit better here or there, but most of what is to be found on the internet is non-science (nonsense). I feel quite certain that the cheapest is the equal of the most expensive.

:-) I didn't mean that you did. There's no evidence it will even help that I can find (proper evidence, I mean) - and yet it does seem to help some. I didn't me, but let's hope for you. At least it's safe and the worst side effect is its laxative action.
