Leaky valve
I think probably most of us do to some extent. I was told by an arrhythmia nurse that everyone over the age of 40 will have some degree of mitral valve regurgitation. If it is severe and warrants treatment, your cardiologist would let you know. If it is relatively mild, a repeat echo every 2-5 years to monitor any changes may be recommended. Mitral valve regurgitation and left atrial enlargement are very common findings with AF. Cardiologists don’t seem to be that bothered unless these findings are severe.
My Cardio told me I had a leaky valve, but it was so common in older people that it was not worth worrying about !
I will echo what Aurumn_Leaves said, that most people have a leaky valve/ valves as they get older. I have mild to moderate leaking of my Mitral and Aortal valves and the my GP and cardiologist say it is not relevant at the moment. They will keep an eye on it via echocardiograms which I have each year. The cardiologist said for me not to give it a thought.
Echo what others say. I have two leaky valves. Asked my GP outright should i be concerned. He said no, most people have such conditions after 60. Im now 74 still exercise daily, walk and am active with no noticable issues. Will be checked again in 3 years.
