Hello everyone. Was wondering how many people on here had success after just 1 ablation? Thanks, Mike

You’re not likely to find 1st time successes here. Those people don’t seek the support of such s group they are the majority and just get on with life.

Whereas those like me with a history of numerous ablations, cardoversions and 30+ years of AF experience find the company very supportive.

Hi Mike

I had an ablation on the 14th September (3 1/2 months ago). I'm in constant NSR. I had one brief 90 min AF episode during the blanking period about 6 weeks ago.

I was on Flecanide daily which I have stopped following my 3 month review with cardiology specialist. I had the Cryo ablation procedure, and the report written by the EP said they were very happy with the op, with good freeze times.

So far I'm stoked with how it's gone. I'm getting to the point where some days I completely forget about AF, although I know in the back of my mind that it could return sometime in the future.

I'm a 51 year old active male, first diagnosed about 2 years ago. I hate feeling crook. So right now I feel like I'm getting on with life.

Cheers Blake

Cheers, That's the best news I've had all week. My ablation is tomorrow. Thanks for your story. Mike

Best wishes for today.

Remember to rest a lot for the first couple of weeks. Only then start doing things gradually listening to your body as you progress.

All the best for tomorrow. I was a bit nervous going into Theatre, but the staff in the surgical team were great, made me feel relaxed. Hardly felt a thing both during and after the operation. Small bit of swelling in the groin area where they inserted the catheter, which lasted about a week.Rest well in your recovery.

I had an ablation in July 2020. No AF at all since.

Not me (I’ve had 4 ablations for multiple arrhythmias) but my next door neighbour who is now about 65 had an ablation for AF 7-8 years ago and hasn’t had a drama - he is a retired, fit, firefighter.

Hi Mike,

I had my first ablation in November 2021. I have not had AF since, I get missed beats and ectopics, but I'm still in NSR. I have a reasonably healthy lifestyle and exercise regularly. The only medication I take is Apixiban. I live in hope that it will last forever.

Hoping I'm like that. Thanks for reply.

I had my first ablation on 2015 with extraordinary results, I was in sinus rithmyn for 7 years and my life was so plenty as if I never had AF. Then last year AFIB came back again, maybe to much drinking, to much stress because both of my parents passed away with only 4 months one from another, I had COVID-19, etc. I had a second ablation 6 weeks ago and so far everything going perfect. I’m sure you will have an improved quality of life after your ablation!!!

I had ablation 5 years ago and all okay other than small flutter ( I don’t notice it) that I take a low dose of Flecainide and verapamil for. I did get eptopics but I don’t notice them either now. Good luck. Take it easy for a while after

6 months so far for me, had a couple of bouts of ectopics but otherwise I’m a new man! (64, retired)🤓👍

Good luck and remember that after ablation how you look after yourself will be a big part of whether or not AF returns so take the opportunity to address Lifestyle issues, if you haven’t already.

Hi I had AF for at least 10 years paf until it got really bad, I was offered a RF ablation in April ish 2018 at Bristol Got home had one hour long run of AF after about 2 days after and have been AF free since, lots of ectopic episodes until I started taking magnesium turate.

So at the moment I have been AF free for over 4.5 years, so I'm one happy person, but it's always in the back of your mind will it come back again, but there's no use worrying about what might happen, live for the day

Cool beans, I currently take Ionic Mag and it helped me cope with ectopics up until this ablation. thanks for reply

Well without wishing to bad luck myself, yes so far so good. June 1st for flutter and fib.I have had 1 short burst of fib shortly after, and one longer episode caused by poor advice from GP ( see my longer post on that)

Recent follow up with consultant said it was ' text book' and stands a very good chance of success.

I feel so much better, and hope to improve my general health and fitness ( gently)

If /when fib returns, I would definetly be up for another.

I have ,and will, remain on the forum as I was so grateful many times to be understood and supported. I still am!

Naturally, there are big variations in experiences to think about.

Best wishes for 2023

I had an ablation October 2021 and other than etopics have had no AF, fingers crossed it stays this way. I am fairly healthy vegetarian who doesn’t drink alcohol or caffeine and used to run a lot 😊

I had my ablation in October 2020. I’ve had one short episode of AF since. I took Flecanaide and did the recommended exercises to bring NSR back. 2 hrs later I was. Nothing since.

I can’t really say I’ve been that careful. I do have the odd binge drinking night still.

I’m 57 now. I was diagnosed in 2018.

I guess you could say I did. However, diet modifications are what keep the heart n check. It was not fully resolved post ablation until I eliminated aspartame, sucralose and wheat/gluten. Consuming foods or drinks with any of those ingredients sets my heart off again.

I get the strong impression that people with paroxysmal AF are more likely to find ablation successful than those such as me in long term persistent AF. So in an answer to your question, it depends on what kind of AF you have.

Afib_girl profile image
Afib_girl in reply toRumblefeet

I have paroxysmal afib and ablation didn’t do anything for me

Rumblefeet profile image
Rumblefeet in reply toAfib_girl

Sorry to hear that. Not withstanding, I do get the impression that ablation is more successful for people with paroxysmal AF than persistent.

I had my first and only PVI cryo-ablation in August 2018 and I've had absolutely zero A-Fib since -- just continuous blissful NSR. 😀 I'm obviously one of the lucky ones.

Best wishes for 2023.

I’m going into year 4 since my only ablation. No meds, maybe 1 short episode a year since procedure. I stay involved with these groups to offer support and answers to others. And, I know I t’s likely that my Afib will return at some point, and I’ll gladly ablate again if needed - the vast improvement in QOL has been worth it.

Hi Guys,

My first post but I’ve been looking at this forum everyday since first AF episode in April 2019.

I had one ablation in November 2020 and touch wood it has worked so far. Took a few months after until I felt it had worked and still take meds everyday.

Very glad I had it done as had bad symptoms and two cardioversions only lasted a few weeks.

I am 59 year old male in Nottingham, England.

There must be many others like me who never post but do appreciate all the good advice on the forum so thanks.

I had mine last April and other than a few ectopic beats a week after the ablation I've been 100% fine and I'm several years older than you are. The only med I take now is a baby aspirin once a day.

Before the ablation, having a little too much salt in a meal would trigger an event. Now I can eat what I want.
