AF on holiday for 1st time

So I’m on holiday in Cyprus

I’m on 100mg of Flecanide and 1.25mg of bisoporol twice a day .

Since being In Cyprus I’m in Af more than normal

I do t suffer with symptoms , ( a bit of tiredness ) but the annoyance/ down feeling is a bit grim

So what is the likely cause

A) the heat ?

B) dehydration

C ) change of food ?

Interested to have some opinions

Thanks

Matt

Most likely dehydration. Always make sure you pee clear.

Perhaps all of the above to some degree. No alcohol involved i trust, a further potential trigger.

No alcohol at all since I was diagnosed back in May

Not a single drop

That was a tough one lol especially on Holiday but I can’t bring myself to risk it yet .

Me too. Teetotal since March and no episodes since although been to Greece twice in the meantime. I do tend to drink as much fluid as I can so perhaps that does help? My consultant did say that abstinence was best although the odd drink may be OK but I don’t want to risk it. Last year when my episodes were infrequent I had 2 AF episodes whilst on holiday and was drinking alcohol at the time. Personally if you can live without it I wouldn’t risk it and plan your life around zero alcohol.

I stopped drinking Wines and spirits and that helped me a lot just continued with beer but there is some studies on this. Been without an attack for 5 years and then bang caught pneumonia and now been in AF for 5 weeks so far. Anybody else experienced this ?

It could be all or any of the things listed above, but I'll add another - the stress of being on holiday and out of your usual routine. Holidays are meant to be relaxing, but at times they do come with a bit of worry, just getting to the airport for one thing, then where's your check in. Hopefully once you arrive at your holiday destination and have been there for a few days, know your way around the hotel and resort, well then things start to calm down and stress fade away. Hopefully, that will happen to you very soon.

Best wishes.

Jean

I don't think it is any of the above. If it was me , I would put it down to the buildup going away, the added stress going through transit with Covid and then too bigger contrast when you finally relax in your accommodation and surrounds. I would have planned some semi-challenging excursions in the first couple of days thus winding down at a slower pace.

Hi Secondtry

That’s an interesting concept and approach

Thanks

Increased altitude is a trigger. Stay very hydrated. I have found an extra magnesium pill helps.

It could be the flight. When l go to Spain my ectopics are always worse for a while then settle down, again on my return they play up. Enjoy the sunshine

Heat does it for me every time

Take a chill pill: relax on the beach or by the pool, cold drink good book and see if it goes away. I am in Cyprus myself , its not too hot 24 or 25 max, very comfortable.

In my experience when traveling, time change, excitement of being in a new place, and not enough sleep triggered my a-fib.

Heat is a huge trigger for me. Dehydration goes along with heat if you aren’t drinking enough water. Although it is over all a fun adventure, there is always stress with travel. I track my heart rate constantly with my Apple Watch. If I start getting a higher heart rate, I try to take a break and relax until it is more normal for me. Sorry you are experiencing this on your vacation.

Hi TM93

Thankfully I only get tired , my heart rate only goes to 110 at it’s worst , I don’t really get any symptoms and I have removed my Apple Watch to avoid it taking over my holiday by checking every 10 mins etc .

I think it’s the heat with me as well

I did find mine was sometimes caused by heat. Twice had an episode in my car, despite windows down. Also twice, at work when very warm.

The other two are also likely.

Hope it doesn't effect the rest of your holiday too much.

Rob
