It is only very recently I read reports here of people having both groins used. I can't understand the reason as you only need to get one catheter into the heart at once. All veins lead the the right atrium from whence the septum is punctured to move across into the left atrium for isolating the four pulmonary veins. If I get a chance to speak to any of my EP contacts I may ask if this is a new method but you might also like to ask your own. .
I had access from both groins in 2013 as well as 2021 so h as been used for a while.
Maybe when the ablation is to involve more than the isolation of PVs then he has the choice of using either to avoid unnecessary pressure (?) on one side ( spreading the load ) when the procedure is expected to be lengthy?
Just a thought ...probably completely wrong and too simplistic!
Now that sounds more likely...the reason for both groins that is!
Sorry to hear that you've had so many problems since your ablation which was just a few weeks after my last one. I have been really well AF wise until Sat night when it all came back with a vengeance 😬.....had 2 nights in CCU and electrically cardioverted early Wed morning. It was good while it lasted 😔 ( this was dccv no 23!)
Pleased to say I went back into NSR on Wed morning and discharged in the afternoon! All good.
They always work for me but for varying amounts of time. In the early days I have gone 3/5 years but latterly 6/ 12 months between episodes. Unfortunately mine are persistent so very rarely stop without electrical intervention.
PS....I don't know about a medal, possibly a crown of plug sockets 🙄
I think this is likely. This time I had a second ablation only 6 weeks after a cryo ablation and they used both ground. 2 leads in one side initially and then s third in the other. I am sure this was because the entry sites from the first were not fully healed/ intact?
I had both when I had my ablation. The left side was only a tiny cut which healed quickly. The left was a larger incision which took longer to heal and had the lump behind it.
My god daughter had two groin entry wounds, one on each leg last month.I was surprised and wondered if it was her age (12) or if because it was for SVT arrthymia type.
I've just had my 4th ablation and they used both sides. Only used the right side before. No idea why and I never saw my EP before or after to ask why, what or how. I was too tired to ask the nurse.I'm a week post procedure and the wounds have healed just fine with minimal bruising. But honestly he could have gone in from my little toe for all I cared as long as it works 😁.
lol I agree with you who cares where they go as long as they fix us. I have just a tiny not even a scar but a piece of skin where they went through the side of my neck. Not sure if they are using it yet over there but here in the states they are actually closing our loans with a new closing item instead of putting weight etc. on it it is something that inserts and eventually goes away inside the wound to lessen bleeding. I think it is called vasculate or something like that. I just had the brochure bouncing around and now I can’t find it. You feel a little bump where it is in the beginning lol make sure your nurse knows what it is so she doesn’t think you have a hematoma like mine did lol. I had three people including the assisting surgeon think it was a hematoma and tried to get rid of it lol I told my surgeon he should let his people know about it before hand we had a laugh about them trying to fix something that wasn’t there. At least they paid attention to unusual things. I think the drugs made it funny to me at the time lol
I am amazed at the things I take for granted now that they do to me. Are used to be shy but now whatever they want to do just do it and make me better. Most of my medical staff is always so caring they don’t realize I just don’t care anymore what they do again just make me better.
I had a cryo-through the right and RF through the right my third went through my wrist, right groin and carotid. I don’t know if it’s different parts of the mapping or why they do it. The one with the three parts was my VOM behind my heart.
