hi all sorry for being a pain but need advice.

I had the ablation done on Saturday and as you know I had a rough time of it well Sunday normal sinus rhythm then the early hours of Monday back to being high was like that all day yesterday my Kardia said I was tachycardia, I was hoping to sleep it off but woke up today and still the same and now don’t feel well so what I want to know is if that’s normal or should I be worried ?

Thanks in advance

Normal for most people. If you haven't already please read our fact sheet on recovery

Tachycardia is not uncommon after an ablation but if you have contact details, it would be a good idea to speak to your Arrhythmia Nurse as they might suggest a cardioversion. You could try the Valsalva Manoeuvre (best to Google) as this often works. Take a deep breath, pinch your nose and keep your lips tightly closed then crouch as though having a poo and with tightly clenched buttocks, push as though having a poo and breathing out at the same time. Obviously not very elegant and best done with caution and in private 😉

Certainly worth trying, it worked for me!

Would that be wise shortly after surgery? I know it’s a safe thing to do in general, but would it rupture any wounds that might not be healed yet?

Good point…..ironically probably less of a problem than a CV but that would be done under medical supervision

It is not unusual at all. Are you still on your meds?Did you get a direct contact number in case of after-proceedure issues?

Hope it settles down, your heart has hadca shock and is reacting.

Best wishes

Hi bell.

I would expect all sorts and weird and not so wonderful things. An ablation is a big shock to your heart. Unlike the rubbish the hospital will tell you, it takes a long time to recover fully for most people.

Rest rest and more rest and I know it’s easier said than done a lot of the time but do your best not to panic and try to switch off from every little change you experience in regards to your heart. There will be many. Just get plenty of rest and keep yourself well hydrated and please don’t try to do too much before your ready. Baby steps. You don’t want to upset the work that’s been done.

Expect ups and downs and you can’t go wrong. Any severe pain, breathlessness, or crazy heart rates are best reported to your arrythmia nurse though.

Best advise I can give is to remain calm, try to go with the flow and switch off from your Heart. Keep your mind occupied and rest.

Good luck 💪

I had Ablation 7plus weeks ago and some days my heart is still doing weird things. I did ring my arrhythmia nurse , twice and when I explained my symptoms she confirmed all normal and advised me to rest and let my poor old heart heal. I am a naturally anxious about everything so have found it a challenge to not dwell on things. I hope you are still on your meds. Remember to drink lots of water to keep hydrated. I wish you a successful recovery. X

Hi

Are you still taking meds?

As you have à Kardia device perhaps you can record what is happening so you can send the reading to your Dr by mail to set your mind at rest. But as said above this happens to many of us ( me included) so try not to worry.

Take care x

It is normal to have higher HR post ablation but if you're not feeling good you can call your Arrythmia nurse for advice. Many if us have runs of AF and/or high heart rates during the first few weeks. Higher HR can hang around for longer though usually that means 80s and 90s, not 100+.

Thank you I haven’t been in normal rhythm since Sunday so a day after I had it done I am doing as I am told my husband even took my Fitbit watch off of me yesterday so I couldn’t keep checking it.It is going from 70-130 continuously my husband just keeps saying that’s normal and to be expected but if that is what happens then I will just have to put up with it.

Hi, if you're worried call one of the nurses - I did. If you can manage (as Singwell says, not a heartbeat of 100+) try to get s much rest as you can. At times I felt as though all my energy had drained away and had to lie down. I asls had a few migraine auras which sorted themselves out ater a week or so - and had to go back into hospital with raging af a couple of days after my ablation. However it has stopped a lot of my problems and although I still need my meds, I'm not troubled by it nearly as much.

Good luck and be careful to get as much rest for as long as you can. Best wishes.
