Since cardioversion is not a cure for anything it is normal to continue medications for AF post procedure.
If you feel OK on it, a fairly slow pulse is not usually regarded as a problem, as it seems it does help to keep the heart in rhythm as well as slowing the pulse rate.
I was kept on 10mg bisoprolol for 2 1/2 years after my successful cardioversion , and my pulse was often 44bpm and rarely above 50 or so. I gradually developed shortness of breath on exercise, and my ankles started to swell a lot, and having read the reports from other people in this group of similar effects with biso, I eventually persuaded the cardiologist to try lowering my dose this summer. I'm down to 6.25mg now, and my pulse is still sometimes upper 40s, more often in the 50s, never above 60bpm. I'm still in normal rhythm as far as I know. I'm to reduce to 5mg in a few weeks if everything's still OK, and then reassess with the cardiologist. If everything stays OK, in January it will be 3 years with no relapse since my cardioversion.
It would be something to discuss with your doctors if you feel your dose affects how you are. Hope all goes well for you.
Hi there I have a follow up with a cardiologist but it isn't for 2 months. May see if they will do a telephone appointment to discuss as I think the Bisoprol is causing my significant hair loss. Glad things are working out for you
best wishes
I'm a rebel & after dealing with doctors heart nurses & the elusive cardiologists, i medicate as required. After being cardioverted for the 3rd time in 3 years & told to carry on taking 5 mg of bisop & eliquis,my heart rate was in the 30s, i reduced it to 2.5 & still low, so stopped altogether after just a few weeks, that was over 4 years ago. I had 2 attacks a year ago & converted myself by taking 300mg flec & 10 bisop each time, the 2 attacks were just 2 weeks apart, no idea what brought them on but apart from these 2 ocations, ive been pill free for over 4 years, i cycle 20 miles 3 times a week, fast for 40hrs every week, i consider myself relatively fit for 66 but take everything these so called experts say with a pinch of salt, feeling great & pill free!
Do you mean that resting in a chair in the evening watching TV that your pulse is 52 (“resting heart rate “), or while walking vigorously, it stays at 52 (exercise heart rate”)?
I guess the former, in which case, even though I don’t often have to take bisoprolol, I am not far from you (resting rate 54bpm sometimes). I think this can be normal.
Steve
HI Steve its 52 to 55 sitting on the sofa. Today things went Pete tong and went up to 107 after going out for a walk and climbing 4 flights of stairs to my flat. Took over an hour to calm down again.
