Hi. Everyone! Had my Cardioversion on Weds after being in A&E the previous Thursday & Friday with fast HR and dizzy spells! I’m ok for the time being, very painless procedure and wouldn’t be scared of having it done again! Have to continue my medication , my resting HR is now low, between 43-50 the AF nurse said it’s ok so other than feeling wiped out , I’m not in AF for the time being! My previous HR was 110-138 for 2 whole weeks, so I have not been used to a lower HR all that time! I have had AF for 2 years, on the waiting list for an Ablation now which I will be having under GA! Let’s hope I remain in normal sinus rhythm for a few months at least!! Good luck to anyone who is having a cardioversion. It’s really nothing to worry about , just hope I can feel myself again soon 😄

I'm pleased to hear that your cardioversion was successful. I've had quite a few cardioversions and learnt all about what I shouldn't do afterwards the hard way, so my advice is:
Make sure that you don't exert yourself now for a week or two and allow your heart to gain strength beating in it's correct rhythm. I once walked up a hill the day after having one and immediately went back into AF. I'd also recommend no alcohol for a while or large meals.

thank you for your advice Jean. For the first 2 days I didn’t feel ‘right’ however, this morning, I have hoovered so I must be feeling a bit better! I have 2 dogs with no-one to walk them, so I plan on taking them for a walk tomorrow (that will be my 3rd day) as far as alcohol goes, I don’t even want to risk having any until Christmas! 🤣😘
Just avoid hills, perhaps there's a seat somewhere where you can throw a ball for the dogs. Let this be a chance for you to let the dogs sniff to their hearts content and track what's been where you're walking. Take care.

I've had three ablations but am now in constant low-rate AF.
My cardioversions lasted from 1 day (when I walked up a hill), several months and also two years.
If I was just starting out on my AF journey now. I would change my diet drastically to a healthier one (avoiding all foods/drinks containing artificial additives), before having any ablations. I bitterly regret not doing that now.

yes that’s what I’m trying to do , I don’t have caffeine, very little alcohol and I walk 3 miles every day. I think grief has had a lot to do with my AF xx
Yes, I think a shock to the system/grief can have a big impact on causing AF.

Seriously listen to JeanJeanie. I went to Gentle excercise classes on day 8 & felt fine so on day 9 I thought I would try Crown green bowling .Just 3 pairs games 11 up.Half way though 2 nd game started with breathlessness & third game breathless & dizzy.That was me back in AF & still 1 year later.On list for ablation.
once you have your ablation life will be even better if not a total improvement

well done, my 3 caqrdioversions all lasted over 12 mths and after talking to doc I was able to come off bisoprolol for those periods. best of luck

congratulations. I had one done three weeks ago and also NSR and starting to feel so much better. Our bodies have to heal so don’t worry it’s normal not to want to just jump up and run up the hill lol I had an average of 158 heart rate since the end of April until my cardioversion. Too involved to explain but I will tell you I have a new doctor. I met him on a Monday by Friday I was having an echo and then cardioversion and that same day I woke smiling with a heart rate of 82. I now vary from the 70s to 81. I had two regular oblations one cryo-one RF and between the two had a break from a fib for almost 2 years. This past April I had a more aggressive VOM done which is Vein of Marshall. It took care of my flutter but that was it and I have been in a fib since then. I could barely walk and had constant chest pain and more often feeling as though I were blacking out. I have been told it could take up to a year to heal but if things went well I could end up off all meds including blood thinner. I am only six months into that year so I have to wait-and-see plus it’s a relatively new procedure less than three years old now. My surgeon at the time is the pioneer of the procedure done with alcohol.
i’m so glad you’re scheduled for the ablation. Remember ablations don’t normally fail. When we need another one it is usually because there is another weak spot in our upper electrical system of the heart. My previous two were still holding strong. Vein of Marshall is located behind the heart. The procedure is new the area is not but often it is also not thought about. I still get tired. I am on metropolol, and Multaq and Xarelto. The only one I have issues with is the Metropolol lol because I have an appetite again and I was enjoying losing weight. If you’re going to feel lousy you might as well get something good out of it lol

thank you for your reply, I have never heard of the vein of Marshall 😱 I am so pleased your also in NSR for the time being and hope this continues for you! I have been for a walk with my 2 dogs today and I felt ok, so I think I am starting to feel a lot better now! I had my CV done quite quickly thank goodness 😅 2 weeks spent In permanent AF , then I had to go to A&E for dizzy spells last week and my CV was done Weds just gone, so I feel very fortunate I haven’t had to wait long. I am hoping this is a sign of things to come for people the cardioversions get better. I did not have the external but the one with the scope. My other doctor was going to do one Labor Day weekend here in September but the reason I have a new doctor is his staff member who seems to rule the roost and messed it up. I have never seen anyone make so many mistakes and get away with it and I got fed up. To make it worse she’s not a nurse but a medical secretary. April 26 was my surgery and the only relief I had was until the medicines wore off for pain. The best part of all of this is I have a doctor close to home now instead of 2+ hours away as well as a good hospital 15 minutes away. Things happen for a reason. I am looking forward to being able to walk my dog we have about an acre of land. He will be thrilled when I can walk better. December 20 I made with a Neurosurgeon for back surgery it’s always something I feel like a junkie old car lol if it’s not one part that breaks down it’s another lol
