angiogram

[Tapanac]

Has anyone had to stop their apixaban for an angiogram. I understand because of bleeding, but when I went to have my pre op assessment the nurse didn’t know. She "thought" I had to stop the apixaban for 2 days prior and take aspirin 75 instead. I have tried to get on to the hospital, but always answerphone. GP receptionist said ring hospital…….!!!!!!

It's really not good enough is it. The nurse should know her job.

I know, it's a bit worrying isn't it. If I don't hear anything to the contrary I will stop the Apixaban tomorrow as the angiogram is Thursday and then re-start Friday evening. Might take the aspirin Tuesday and Wednesday morning....?!?

Yes she should know these things or if not sure check while you are with her or ask the consultant/his secretary to call you with the information.

Thankyou. I did get through to my GP snd hexsaid stop the apixaban 2 days before and take baby dispersable aspirin instead and ask consultant when I have the angiogram when to restart.

Good stuff. I am fine thank you. Getting my Covid booster today so practicing my sprint starts to get in front of the queue - if the queue jumping that went on at the flu jabs was anything to go by LOL!

Angiogram all done and just arrived home (11 hours)

Good results and did right in stopping the apixaban 2 days before and to restart on Saturday. Didn’t have the person I was supposed to see, had the registrar, and unfortunately going in he missed the artery so had to start again otherwise no problems until after they were loosening the band round my wrist blood gushed out so had to tighten up again. So just as well stopped the anticoagulant

Anyway all good - small amount of furring in a few places but hardly anything to worry about as normal at my age. Obviously saw the afib, and then tachycardia started up a bit, but settled to bradycardia afterwards!!

Anyway thank you everyone for your help and best wishes. Now just for the aches in my chest and arms and the mass of bruises to heal. Other good news must not do anything for 2 days. Never been so cosseted after an angiogram before!

Pleased to hear that all went well with your angiogram Pat. that must be a relief for you to know all is ok. I had an MRI scan which showed I had moderate calcification around my heart area. No one has said anything about it and I don't have any problems.

Hope you heal quickly now.

did they explain moderate calcification?? Amazing the dont tell all most of the time. Glad it doesn’t cause you any trouble though X

Palpitations or mild tachycardia at the moment so trying to ignore by looking online for a sparkly top for Christmas. I know early but……!!!!

No, moderate calcification was never explained to me.

Re calcification. Sometimes we don't even want to google things do we. Look up a mere headache and suddenly think and read that there is a brain tumour there.

Yes no bleeding from the wound today (or hope so as haven't taken off the big bandage and under dressing yet) although through the night both arms ached and I had afib/tachy and palpitations. Bit better this afternoon, but still feel sort of "full". Nurse said it was the bruising of the heart???? Anyway still here and home. Pity the surgeon "missed" the artery causing more bleeding, but got some blood left, eh!

I've had angiograms before both through the groin and wrist, but never have I had so much fuss with the pre-op assessment, all the nurses and doctors round me and 11 hours waiting to leave.

I do hope you carry on getting better as I read recently you hadn't been well having a horrible time and that not so very long after your gall bladder operation. I had one of those way back in 1971. They wouldn't believe I was in so much pain at 27 years old and said anyway people who got gall stones were usually fair, fat and forty. I was blonde, but skinny and 27. Times change though my scars are huge with holes around them and I understand often it is keyhole surgery.

Anyway I'm rambling. Waiting for an online shop from Sainsburys.

Hi, I was on warfarin at the time of my angiogram and had to stop that for 5 days prior. I challenged that intiallly as I'd had an ablation and stayed on warfarin. the consultant doing the angio rang me and talked me through it and I stopped. It all went ok. But you need medic to tell you what todo not stop on the off chance. You might have to get stroppy with someone , but point out its wasting their and your time if you turn up and they cancel cos of too much blood thinner.
