No apixaban for 2 days before prostate biopsy

Is 2 days no apixaban usual prior to prostate biopsy, think it's out the system by then.

Not really worried as as far as I know I haven't had afib episode since diagnosis over 2 yeers ago, if I had one the beta blocker would certainly let me know due to heightened awareness of heartbeat

Sounds about right. Also double check when they want you to restart, may depend on how it went, everyone is different ( from an ex nurse with no prostate!!!)

I've been told 5 days prior to open heart surgery so 2 days for a biopsy would seem fair.

whenI had my biopsy I was on warfarin and didn't have to stop it. Now on apixaban on docs recommendation and seems to me personallyand from comments on this site its much more of a risk for bleeds. Can't really see why its recommended so much unless docs get rewarded by drug company.

Warfarin has an different anticoagulation mechanism to NOACs so that may account for a difference with stopping times.

I wouldnt want the hassle of constant blood test appointments or the expense of a home testing kit with warfarin so I asked for an NOAC when advised I needed anticoagulation.

If you would rather be on warfarin ask your Dr to change you over but perhaps not mention you think he's getting backhanders.

hi, when I was on warfarin if my INR level was ok then I was checked only every 8wks. The INR staff would respond to phone calls re any concerns about missing doses etc, and would help prepare you for hospital procedures re INR levels or stoppages I felt that was quite reassuring. I had no home testing kit and the INR checks were in local town where we shop so no hassle to go to.

Seems apixaban is much less checked as its supposed to be safe. But one side effect can be brain bleeds causing a stroke, which I've had since been on apixaban after 10 yrs on warfarin and no stroke. I asked doc to change back, but now I've had a stroke they say its more important to stay on it. I've not seen evidence that says apixaban makes much difference to taking warfarin. I grew up in era of thalidomide, where docs and drug companies lie and forge results hence my dubiousness.
