Prostate mri scan found something so transpireneal biopsy next week
Prostate biopsy: Prostate mri scan... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Prostate biopsy
Hoping all goes well with the biopsy.
Been there done that.
Best wishes for a good outcone. Following pressuring the Nurse taking blood for my annual Apixaban liver test. I added a PSA. Hmmm. Face to face appointment with GP and the usual test. Now awaiting appt with Urology.
Good luck and best wishes.
Getting older is no fun. I hate waiting for the results of my PSA test, twice yearly. Keep in mind that the vast majority of problems with the prostate aren't of long-term consequence, and even when more serious, as my elderly friend is testament to, very many years on after his diagnosis, modern treatment is amazing, and he continues well with his daily tablet of enzalutamide.
Steve
PSA at 4.2 picked up with blood test, just over the normal threshold.
Rectal examination normal and no symptoms but family history prompted the urologist to go for mri scan.
Best to get checked out, fingers crossed for positive outcome.
It’s good to read that the NHS is functioning well. Let’s hope all is okay. I don’t know how inheritable it is. My dad was fine but my brother and I both have large prostates. I’m struggling with night time urinary issues which wake me regularly and leave me tired out. The tablets (was doxazosin, now alfuzosin) seem to help in the day but not at night.

Hope all goes well.
FYI I have I understand an enlarged prostate for must be 20+ years now, 69yo at present. My PSA (this test is not that reliable but the best we have got) went from 1 to 4 and then back to 3. Agreed with my urologist to have a biennial test. I take Lamberts Healthcare (UK company, I have no commercial interest) Prostex which with a largely no processed organic food diet has improved my flow significantly. I get newsletters from Guildford (Surrey) world class centre if you are looking for a second opinion royalsurrey.nhs.uk/urology-/
I’d heard of that and will read the links you posted. Thank you!
I cope well in the day on alfuzosin, but night time is, although variable, often awful - last night 5 times and little flow each time. Come morning, all is well (enough) again. I also take finasteride but that did nothing useful.

Not sure if it will help in your circumstances but I pee once or twice in the night regularly. Recently I started peeing more in the day and on going to bed 3/4 times before 1am!! Due to eating at least twice a day own grown summer fruit and a modest amount of sugar, I am now in the middle of an experiment to stop all fruit and 99% sugar for a week and then slowly introduce a little fruit. This solved the night time peeing increase.
Well - that’s interesting. Do report back on the results. I think mine is caused by my weird bowel which has diverticula in it, gives me IBS and is often trying hard to be constipated (and is longer than average I gather)! I’m going to see a specialist at some point to ask about this theory and whether anything can be done to help.
Getting older is proving to be something of a trial! 😉

Most men die with prostate cancer, not from it. Highly treatable. The took 36 samples from mine and an MRI because of higher than normal scores, and found 0.05% in 1 core. My biannual PSA tests show very slight increases in the last 20 years. You will be fine 🙂 My 1st urologist ordered all of the biopsies, he retired, and my new urologist ordered the MRI and told me it should have been done before any biopsies, so be aware of that.
Biopsys can be hit and miss so to try to make sure they hit the right spot find out if person doing biopsy has a copy of scan results and knows where to aim for. When this happened to me, I was told there were some unusual cells which needed a biopsy to check. When I went for biopsy they knew nothing about scan, did not have results and were going to shoot blind. I refused biopsy until they got copy of scan to review. Eventually they did and biopsy was clear.
Many have been through what you're facing and are alive and well to relate their experiences.
