Re: anticoagulants

Personal opinion, not something to experiment with without recommendation from cardiologist who is familiar with patient history.

No matter what some questionable sources say, there is no substitute for a prescription anticoagulant. I am living proof. I thought if I took aspirin and serrapeptase I would be covered against stroke. I wasn't, I had a mini stroke then an actual stroke. When I was recovering I did a bit of research online and there are a lot of horror stories concerning people who had put their faith in the efficacy of natural blood thinners and ended up suffering the consequences, some of them being fatal. Get some advice from a Board Certified Cardiologist and you will see what I mean.

I am sorry to read of your personal experience, I hope you are on the road to recovery? All treatment options and medications will need to be raised with your doctor to ensure the correct treatment is fitting to you.

Katrina,

I need to know the answer to this question asap, not be "teased" with the expectation of a "revelation" on AF Patients Day.

I cannot be anticoagulated because of prior chronic bilateral subdural haematomas. And I don't fancy the heart puncturing left atrial appendage closure procedures of either the Watchman or atrial clip.

So what exactly do you suggest? I really am the AF patient who needs to know this information as soon as possible.

Thankyou for your message, it is understandable that you may have many questions. Unfortunately, our Admin Team and Members on the Forum are unable to answer those questions accurately. They must be raised with your own doctor, as they have access to your personal medical records and will be able to recommend the most effective treatment option for you.

Chance would be a fine thing !!!!! I have no faith in the few "experts" I have so far encountered. No actual help has, as yet, arrived in my "in tray". Recommendations yes, actions no.

I thought as an "interested" non-expert, exactly as other AF Forum members do, you would be able to point me to relevant areas where I could do my own research. What's the mystery?

I won't be relying on my GP, as she has sadly let me down way too many times already.

Whilst I can understand your frustration I would remind you that Tracy is an administrator of AFA. I think her reply appropriate. She is advertising an event and not a fellow sufferer.

I would strongly recommend the Patient Day - you learn directly from the experts.

Your comments are well received. It does seem my frustration got the better of me.

Apologies to Tracy.

I don't have the technology to access the Patients Day advertised, and was hoping for a few insights for future research from the AF Forum administrator, or anyone at all really.

Not to be it seems. Such is life.
