Sotalol and Anti depressants "venlafaxine"
Hi - I have never had either drug but was told I couldn't have sotalol as it would increase the QT interval; I notice that venlafaxine can do the same. In your case, it will be something your doctors have weighed up the pros and cons for, no doubt. A prolonged QT interval is potentially risky, so I gather so continuous monitoring is recommended if the two drugs are used together.
If I were you. I would explain your serious concern over the drugs. I gather that venlafaxine is only used when other antidepressants have not worked well, but I gather that all SSRI type drugs can prolong the QT interval.

Hi Fryguy, I am really suffering with anxiety and depression and was previously on citalopram as an anti depressant before being diagnosed with afib. I am on sotalol 120mg daily in 3 divided doses. My EP does not want me on any antidepressants but didn't clarify if this was because of the sotalol in particular. All he said was they interfere with heart arrythmias
I am on Sotalol. There are a lot of drug interactions with this medication and also quite a few with the Edoxaban and Atorvastatin, that I’m also on,so I have the lists of all 3 drugs and their reactions with other medication, that I got from the N.I.C.E. website, which I’ve stored on my phone and if I am going to be given a new medication or over the counter drug, I can refer to this list. It is very useful and tells you if there could be any side effects if you mix the drugs.
Hi Sixtychick can you check something for me please? Does sotalol interfere with prednisolone (steroid) as I have to take this for polymyalgia and I often wonder as I have never felt well since I started taking it
Prednisolone has a red flag warning on the NICE pages. It says it’s predicted to cause hypokalaemia, potentially increasing the risk of torsade de points when given with SotaloI. Just looked it up and Hypokalaemia is a lower than normal potassium level in your bloodstream, that could affect nerve and muscle cells and your heart. l should talk to your GP. Why don’t you download the list from the internet, then you can check it yourself. The Drs should check if there’s any interactions with the drug they’re prescribing, but I always check myself with this list, as I found, they don’t always check.
Sertraline and Sotalol both increase cQT interval and must be used under caution and monitored.
