heart rate normal but fluctuates low

hello, just had an ablation about 12 days ago . The usual recovery, fatigue, cough that is finally going away , achy chest on occasions.

I have been able to return to some running and elliptical as I work out 5 times week and have run about 16 marathons but cut back in the last 10 years ago now that I am 60.

My heart rate rarely exceeds 75 and accelerates up to 130’s when working out. My main somewhat concern is my heart rate can go down in the upper 30’s on occasion and then goes to the 60’s when is about average. I can feel when it goes in the 30’s and come days it just stays average. I did have this same dilemma before the ablation but what weird is my sleep heart rate is higher than my waking resting as my Apple Watch tells me. Not sure what to think ? My cardiologist was not concerned about it before ablation but seems more pronounced after….

Far too early after your ablation to be doing the exercise you talk about. Give your heart time to heal. If you carry on as you are chances are you'll end up where you started. I would mention to your GP about your low heart rate.

Absolutely agree with Jean - running 12 days after ablation? You have fresh 3rd degree freeze burns on the inside wall of your heart which will take about 3 months to heal in the desired manner!Your level of activity at this stage should be a daily short, slow walk, lots of rest and plenty of clear water.

From what you tell us in your post I'm bound to suspect that your apparent exercise obsession may be the cause of your AF in the first place. Give yourself the best chance of full recovery for goodness sake!

Mugsy15 - thanks for your opinion and theory as to why I have AFib. The purpose of this site is to get opinions so appreciate it. I would like to say my Cardiologist who has done ablations for decades disagrees with your theories as to why I have Afib . He has cleared me to run and just take it easy and watch heart rate with a monitor. thanks for the reply though

Well it makes more sense to listen to your Cardiologist than some stranger with little medical training on a forum, so you must look to where you believe the wisdom to be. All I ask is that you read the ablation recovery fact sheet produced by Bob D and others and available on here before dismissing my advice.
