Very Strange - don’t try this at home.!

I was having a not uncommon afternoon PAF session when a big blue bottle flew across my face - I hate them! Despite not feeling up to it I grabbed my electric fly swat which is a bit like tennis racket with a little button to “ light up” the fly when I get it. By some miracle I got it in a few seconds - it must have been dozy and so was I. Without thinking I touched the metal surface but hadn’t taken my finger off the button. I zapped myself, sat back in shock thinking what have I done to myself and my pacemaker? …. Then I realised my PAF had resolved in a split second. Coincidental probably … and I won’t be trying this again…

Hahaha, good story! Though my first mental image was of a big blue bottle ( as opposed to a bluebottle the fly) hurtling through the air and crowning you. Which may have sorted your arrythmia or may just have given you concussion.

It's funny you should tell this story because I used to have one of those tennis racket fly swatters and it was really good - and just yesterday I was wondering what happened to it as several flies were driving me nuts trying to shoo them out.

Haha me too, as I have a pretty blue wine bottle on my kitchen window ledge and immediately pictured this flying through the air towards me!😃

I might have a look at those flyswatters, flies can drive you up the wall sometimes.

The last cardioversion I had I felt so ill I was so desperate for it I told the nurse I’d have had it without the anaesthetic if needed just to get it done. It might be a bit too tempting to give the swatter a go if there was one around.

Sounds scary with a pacemaker though.

Well my AF has affected my brain - when you said a big blue bottle 🍾 I thought who would have thrown that by your face - then realised what you meant but hey - a new home remedy

It was shocking ! 😂

Shh dont let too many people know, with the long NHS waiting lists for any treatment they might send us electric fly swatters through the post to use as DIY cardioversions lol.

The “Cardio-Swat” on prescription? …and for those in farming communities there’ll be the “PAF-Prod”. I’m now resting from this line of humour. Over and Out !

I haven't seen long waiting lists where I live. My 3 yearly colonoscopy took place 3 years and 2 months after the previous one. Following damage or destruction of one of my peroneal nerves after a fall, I had a yearly checkup on time seeing a specialist orthopaedic surgeon three times, having a second nerve conduction test and referred to a physiotherapist with only a week's wait.

Is it just me or are there a lot of flies this year?

in reply toBecksagogo

I’ve not noticed an increase year on year and I can confirm there are at least three less than there were …

Very funny! I often wondered if using my stun gun during an a-fib episode would zap me back into NSR. Hopefully I'll never have the opportunity to try it out!

That could save the NHS millions. No more cardioversions, just swat the patients instead. No sedation, no sandwiches and a cup of tea. I had similar experience (not with a pacemaker) with one of those mosquito bite zappers.

We could be onto something here ......... Dragons Den Hidden ? 😁
