Full effect takes a while.

Hi GillybeanI think the 3 day respite from pain probably results from the local anaesthetic that is part of the injection. Normally you are asked to be careful after a steroid injection and not overuse the affected limb but that is pretty hard to do with the trochanteric bursa, assuming you can walk. It can take time for a relatively large area of inflammation to settle.

My advice to patients was always to move about gently, little and often , for at least a week after the injection.

Thanks for the information. Just started to use a stick this morning it does help. Just waiting for my doctor to call. Found my X-ray results on the NHS App and it says I have severe loss of joint space demonstrated within the right hip joint in keeping with osteoarthritis. Will see what the doctor says.

Hi there, Doctor told me yesterday I have to have a hip replacement.Got todo exercises every day without fail, lose some weight go to physio and I have been referred to MKAPS I think he said. How your life can change. Handed my notice in because I am struggling to walk. Now wish I hadn’t because of bills. But I couldn’t really do the job properly. Been there 18 years. Never mind. X

I had physio for trochanter if bursa. Absolutely brilliant. Eight weeks of it and now at the first sign of any pain I start the exercises again. There are plenty of links on Youtube or ask your local physio team.

I had cortisone into knee, I was told a week to take full effect . The soreness of the needle would still be in play in 3 days. The needle goes in deep. After a week I had no pain for 5 months , would like to have another one shortly . They are 6 monthly . H

Hi there, thanks for your message. Doctor called yesterday told me I have got,to have a hip replacement. The pain is unbearable at times and because my hip gives way so often decided to pack in my little job. The space loss is severe he said. I did need the job. But at 72 I think it is time for a rest.
