Apixaban and joint and muscle pain/aches
No and been taking for over 10 years. Have aches and pains but not caused by Apixaban which I consider to be an essential med - many meds I can and do do without but not my Apixaban. Do you also take statins? Now they DO have a record of causing muscle pain.
When I first started taking it I noticed slightly more pain in my knees. But then I already have osteoarthritis to begin with so I can't really make a firm conclusion. The information for apixaban does indicate it may cause joint pain in 1% to 10% of people though not everyone experiences it and is uncommon.
Yes I experienced awful muscle pain which led to weakness, it built up slowly. My GP insisted that Apixaban does not cause those side effects even tho it’s clearly written on the data sheet and said my pain was due to stress.
I had to consult a haematologist who gave me Riveroxaban then Edoxaban. I think it is a class effect in me.
Maybe for me it’s back to Warfarin and I will just have to put up with the inconvenience of INR testing again.
Yes definitely. Apixaban amplifies pain for me. I discovered this when taken off for 8 days before my first hip replacement op in 2020 by an over cautious anaesthetist. My pain dramatically improved. Since then I have tinkered with the dose and the full dose definitely causes the pain in various sites to be much worse. Even the slight pain from plucking out unwanted facial hair is amplified! The full dose also gives me digestive problems. Unlike many people here I regard it as the pink poison I have to take.
Hip joint pain worse with Edoxaban but eased somehwhat after 2months still of concern.
Arthritic pain became much worse on Apixoban, and continued to worsen during the time that I took it. I also had high uric acid in a blood test that had never been found before. The pain did lessen somewhat after stopping the tablets but even after 6 months has not completely gone. There is some evidence on the internet that bleeding can occur into prior damage to joints - including the spine. I have atrial flutter and various arrhythmias due to thyroid problems, on holter monitors I was found to have one episode of af lasting 12 seconds. I am currently taking clopidogrel and a mini aspirin. I worry that I am at risk for a stroke as I am unsure as to whether or not I have paroxysmal af and would prefer to take apixoban or similar, but Frank,y, I was unable to walk without two sticks after taking it for a month. Good luck.
