Hi I’m scheduled to go for a gastroscopy next week and worried that I may go into AF as my attacks are usually vagal induced . Does anyone

Have any experience of gastroscopy with AF

I've had several gastroscopies. My AF is thought to be vagally mediated as well but I have never had an episode during the procedure. Don't worry about it. It's only a short procedure. I got quite tachycardic before my last one, more nerves than anything else, but it all went off smoothly.

Not the most pleasant of experiences but no problem with AF.

Just had one a couple of weeks ago. I was really worried as well, having AF and also being Asthmatic I was frightened of not being able to breath so they gave me sedation. Didnt remember a thing so dont worry . I mentioned my AF and they smiled and said its nothing we carnt take care of and all was well.

Hi Caradomben Had one 3 weeks ago, no problems and I have a Hiatus HerniaIt’s over in minutes , you’ll be fine. Try not too worry!

Also they give you sedation if you need it

Best of luck !

I have an angiogram impending and am worried about the same thing. I don't know how likely it is these procedures would trigger AF. I suppose anxiety before, during and after such procedures would make it it more likely. It would also depend on the skill of the operator I imagine.

I had an angiogram 4 weeks ago, whilst hospital stay. I’d had a Cardioversion a few day before that. I was very nervous, but don’t be, it went all okay and the team are very caring. All over in 30 minutes, my AF was fine no triggers

Thank you for your reply. I had an angiogram last year and had no problems . Never had any issues during the procedure although I was sedated . Hope all goes well for you too

I've had a gastroscopy and think it's unlikely to induce AF as passing the tube can cause a bit of retching which increases vagal tone. The doc apologised and afterwards I explained this and she said " you learn something new every day". For me it was preferable to a dentist treatment visit!!

I had a gastroscopy. I was medicated and don't remember a thing. They told me I had no heart problems during the procedure. It didn't take long as I had no bleeders detected. I too was so nervous before. It's hard to tell someone else not to be apprehensive. Good luck to you.
