My AF

Morning everyone, well have had a good sleep, just checked my pulse it is still hovering in the 90’s. Thought it would have come down. Should be going to work this afternoon. Just took my medication. Will have to let doctors know I suppose. Just a thought can constant pain start AF off? Thanks x

Good morning. My pulse always took at least 3-4 days to return to normal.

Anything and nothing could trigger AF but stress (pain is a stressor) will be a big antagonist for AF. We all react differently.

90 would be considered within ‘normal’ range so I doubt your doctors will be interested as they usually only want to know if it’s higher than 120 for any sustained period.

Take care & rest & keep hydrated & electrolytes up. What sort of work do you do? If it’s sedentary and not stressful I’d go for it, you got to get on with your life, go by how you feel energy wise & if you think you need to rest - call in sick. Best wishes

Hi, I am only a cleaner at a Motor Home Company but with the pain in my hip and leg, it’s hard work. That makes me feel sick. I have called in sick they don’t mind have been with them for 18 years. I am not going to contact doctor, I will wait a while. I always say I am going to keep a diary of my AF bouts but never do. Have a good day x

Very sensible. So sorry about your hip pain, must be very difficult to live with constant pain.

Thanks it is! But you learn to live with it. But sometimes it can get you down.

Cleaning is hard work, so you’re right to give yourself a break. Definitely not ‘0nly’ a cleaner!

Hi there, I do find it hard actually, mind you I am a young 72. I have been with them for 18 years now. Helps to pay the rent. 🤪

Hiya Gillybean,

Agree with what CDreamer says, particularly her second paragraph. This last 12 months for me has seen an incredible amount of arthritic pain in both shoulders. Whilst it hasn't tipped me into AF it has played hell with my blood pressure and at times my HR.

What will tip me into AF - is food which plays hell with the vagal nerve. It also messes my blood pressure up too. In fact Mrs. CarnEuny went for a girls jubilee nite out on Saturday, so, after work, coming home I called into my local Chinese. This type of meal has been suspect for me for a while but I've always blamed it on preservatives in packed packaged Chinese she normally gets from a well known supermarket beginning with M.

This time I thought I'd enjoy a nice freshly cooked non packaged Chinese. By 2 am the next morning I was woken by a shivering/vibrating sensation within my chest and abdomen. Awful. Got up checked my heart on my Kardia 6L - normal (NSR). Took blood pressure, up very high for me - 161/84 with HR at 69. Normal BP for me is 130/70 ish. However - I must say that in the 24 hours from 07.45 on 4 June to 07.10 hrs on 5 June my BP monitor was showing irregular heart beats, which I also picked up from taking my pulse.

Who knows - but - my pain levels were also up in shoulders from sleeping. I still think Chinese are a problem - so we come back to what CD says "anything and nothing". But to answer your specific question - yes, constant pain, acute pain could well kick off an AF event.

I always note my BP and take heed - it was BP, right in the beginning that gave the clues as to AF - like in a few hours dropping from around 136/80 to 76/50 - my 'Apollo 13' moment.

Anyway, hope you are improving by now.

John

Hi there, just checked it is 90 but is a nice level. No jumping around or fluttering so it may come down a bit today. I know 90 isn’t that of a worry but when it is normally 68 it does knock you a bit. I have Trochanteric Pain Syndrome and sciatica I am in pain constantly I tend to drag my leg around got X-ray on Friday. And a steroid injection on the 22nd which I am not looking forward to but the doctor says as I have never had one it could well ease or stop the pain for a while. I do have a lot going on at the moment so it could be stress related. If I had a Chinese I would be rough. And red meat starts my AF. Ah well you have a good day. X

Feel for you, so a word of encouragement - I have had a cortisone injection for trochanter pain which went all down my leg, twice, and both times the effect was magical. Chronic inflammation does affect AF. Best wishes ❤️‍🩹

Thanks so much for your reply. The pain goes down my buttock and all the way down my leg. Thanks for the words of encouragement. X

Hi there me again, has the Trochanteric pain gone now. Do you mind me asking your age?

I think that question was meant for me? Yes, still have hip pain if I walk too far and am very careful not to do things I know are likely to set it off, like kneeling weeding for too long. I am 77 so retired, it must be very hard for you. After my last injection (several years ago) the consultant physiotherapist who did it said I should exercise while the pain was gone, 50 squats per day for a start! I decided Tai Chi was for me and it was fantastic therapy but of course Covid closed it down and though you can get courses on YouTube it isn’t the same as going to a class.

PS my X-ray showed bony spurs on my hip.

Hi,mi have ECG at 2.15 then Dr. I am 72 the exercises I were given by physio were on the floor mainly. Well that was ridiculous as I can’t get on the floor or get up once down. X

I feel for you with sciatica, have had it a few time. Just wanted to mention acupuncture, which was the last resort for me. I was having physio for it, which was doing nothing at all, and the therapist recommended it. Had six treatments, thinking that wasn’t helping either, and then it just disappeared. Relief was incredible. Just a thought. Good luck.

Hi Gillybean, I do hope you get some relief from the constant pain - fingers crossed that the cortisone injection will work some magic 🤞I do believe that pain can cause AF I had a nasty accident last year (which involved a rescue from the coastguard in Devon!) and by the time I got to A&E I was in a full blown episode. The A&E consultant said he wasn't surprised that I was in AF as it was a lot of stress on my body. All the best ❤

Hope you feel better soon. I am trying not to take Cocodamol as I want to eliminate many factors as possible to deal with always returning AF. My doc once told me I should go to A and E if AF goes into a second day.

I think you get to kn9w your AF as a very irritating old friend. I have had it for fourteen years on and off in the early days I was at the hospital loads of times and paramedic seemed to always be here. I used to be very scared of it. But now I just talk to it. It’s been 250 at one time I couldn’t walk it was awful. X

Normally I can deal with it but change of meds which are clearly not working not helping at all and making me anxious. . Been back in AF since last night. HR in the 90’s but irregular and uncomfortable. Seeing GP this afternoon by which time it may have gone or if not it will be another trip to A and E and round we go again. Making sure my phone and kindle are charged just in case.

Hope it settles down. I’m not going to A and E yet! I have these three to look after.

I feel for you too. I had intense pain a couple of years ago for about 6 months until surgery sorted it and it is just sooo wearing, the pain and the effects of a concoction of painkillers. This is especially wearing on top of AF.Hope things start to settle. It sounds like you made a good decision about taking the time off. 🌸
