Due to have a cardioversion with general anaesthetic early June to hopefully get my heart rate back to normal. I need to have hernia surgery as soon as possible after this procedure and wondered how long after do I have to wait before going ahead with hernia op?

I'd want as long as possible between the procedures to allow my heart to gain strength beating in its correct rhythm. Please take it easy after your cardioversion. I once walked up a hill the day after having one and my heart immediately went back into AF. So easy to slip back in the first few weeks if you exert yourself.

Hi,

My initial feeling is to ask the surgeon who will perform the Hernia Op this question. He/she holds all the cards.

Some years ago I had knee replacement surgery - the surgeon who did my knee job and his anesthetist wanted some evidence of a stable heart rate over a period of time before they proceeded with surgery. Bear in mind the knee job meant being on the slab for 3 hours or so. Don't know whats involved with hernia op.
