Hi all, I’m being changed from rivaroxoban to edoxaban, doctor says there is less chance of bleeding with this medication! Any comments or experience please, thanks!

Don't know about edoxaban but I switched from rivoroxaban to eliquis (afixaban) for that reason and others.

Thanks!

More likely because it’s cheaper. However, most folk who take Edoxaban seem to be happy whereas Rivaroxaban can cause occasional problems for some - see the Xeralto post below……

Most of the medics I’ve heard talk about anticoagulants say the that all DOAC’s offer slightly better protection against an internal bleed than Warfarin (due to possible fluctuations in INR) and that arguably, Apixaban offers slightly better protection out of the DOAC’s but there is little evidence to support this……

I was on Dabigatran (Pradaxa) then moved to Edoxaban a few years ago because the Dabigatran used to irritate my hiatus hernia. It's also more conveniant with just needing one dose per day. I'm very happy on Edoxaban and glad I made the move.

I made that change at my request. Still only once a day and you are not tied to taking it with a meal, so much more convenient. I have had no issues with the change.

My experience with Rivaroxaban was that it caused acute gastritis and a gastric ulcer with recent bleeding. I cannot tolerate Edoxaban because of one of the fillers. Edoxaban is the cheapest of the DOAC’s, so I suspect that is why you surgery is changing everyone over.

With my experiences of Rivaroxaban, I would say it’s a good idea to change.

I can only speak for myself here but my history with blood thinners generally, is not great! Started off on Warfarin when diagnosed back in 2014, but as a veggie who loves the green stuff, INR readings were erratic, was moved to Apixaban which was great diet-wise but within a month, I had awful joint and muscle pain which can be a consequence of this drug.

So was moved to Edoxaban and the side effects were almost immediate, within a week I had huge itchy red rashes all over the old bod and two weeks ago, my cardiologist took me off blood thinners altogether to see if Edoxaban was the cause, the rash is still there but nowhere near as bad as it was. I will be speaking with him in the coming week to see what the next move is!

Fortunately, I have PAF i.e. it's not there permanently, indeed, I've had two episodes of it in the past year and as always during the night after having eaten too much, too late in the day...... but that's another topic altogether! So, good luck with Edoxaban, just be aware rashes are a possible side effect. xx

Thanks Chris that’s very interesting, I also have PAF, last episode was January, but I do find that the arthritic pain seems to have got a lot worse ! So will be interesting to see what happens with the Edoxoban, should start taking it at the beginning of June when I get new prescription!

I've been on Edoxaban since Dec2019 after a stroke, no issues with it whatever. I've had two molar tooth extractions and no issues with those either. HTH
