Main thing to remember is take at the same time of day and with a meal containing protein and a little fat - otherwise it doesn’t metabolise as well. They don’t tell you that bit on the leaflet and GP’s rarely know.

I don’t take it but a friend of mine does and had raised liver enzymes - she hadn’t been taking with a meal containing protein and fat. Soon as she changed the time to take in evening with a more substantial meal than at breakfast - no more problems.

I have been on it for a couple of years and had no issues.

I would ask if there is any reason Rivaroxaban was chosen? I was originally put on Rivaroxaban though I was given the option to choose myself. After a while I had problems because as CD says you are supposed to take it with a meal but when I have a bowel flare up I am supposed to fast. So I changed to Apixaban and found it better in other ways - less bruising, less tendency to bleed and less hair loss. So if you don’t get on with Rivaroxaban there is the option to change if no medical reason to take Rivaroxaban.

My cardiologist a few years ago prescribed Rivaroxaban, then at my last annual check-up he said the research findings in the USA weren't good and he prescribed Edoxaban instead as PIP. However, from this Forum I think Apixaban is currently the one to go for - when I start.

Riveroxaban didn't suit me at all. Cardio left the decision up to me, and I just picked one, based on what appeared in these forums. It put me in hospital with a GI bleed and hgb at 57. Was told "some doacs affect you that way". Will try apixaban when the docs insist on another anticoagulant.

I've been on rivaroxoban for three years without any issues or apparent side effects. As others have said, take it with a meal - for me it's a routine now to place it on the table for dinner as naturally as a knife and fork. But we're not all the same so see how you get on.

I was on it for a while until I had an internal bleed, now on Apixaban with no problems, in fairness I do tend to bleed very easily, so I expect you'll be fine.

Hi Bernie I was given Rivaroxaban following my AF diagnosis last November. However, six weeks later I noticed the same as you pink and red coloured urine. My GP changed the med to Apixaban and my urine's been fine ever since.

I’ve been on Rivaroxaban for five years and have had no problems with it.

I have only been on Rivaroxaban since April, so far, so good.

I've been on Rivaroxaban for 4 years; so glad to get off the Warfarin where l had to have constant blood tests. I have had no problems with it at all. It's the beta blockers l have terrible side effects with, which l started on about 2 years ago. The new anticoagulants are wonderful. Only a few years ago there was only Warfarin which some doctors are still prescribing including mine. I had to ask for the Rivaroxaban which l only found out about looking on the internet.

Hi Dennis. I was on Rivaroxiban for about 4 years then my GP practice sent a letter out (presumably to all patients on it ) that the were changing it to EDOXABAN. Apparently it was proven to have less side effects and was a more cost effective drug to buy. I did have the option of staying on Rivaroxiban but decided to accept the advice that it had been proven by NICE to have fewer side effects. Although my dosage of Rivaroxiban was 20mg /day and EDOXABAN is 60mg - I haven't noticed any difference between the two. Has anyone had same exoerience?

I was also interested in the comment that a blood thinner like one if these could be taken as a PIP. Harry

I’ve been on Rivaroxaban (Xarelto) 20 mg for over 7 years. I can’t pin point any particular side effect in all that time. I always take it with my evening meal.
