Hello,
I have been taking Rivaroxoban for 4 weeks now I feel drained and very tired is this a symptom of this drug.
Hi DMG - I am on Rivaroxaban (4 years) and have not had any side effects. Are you on any other medications - beta blockers ect!! Most people do not seem to have the side effects that you describe from Rivaroxaban, but we are all different.
It's probably the bisoprolol as that does make some people feel tired. When I first started on it I felt like I was walking on treacle and as I was retired it was easier to give in than not. However all the grandchildren came to stay and miraculously I felt better. I am now down to 1.25mg and don't really notice it. I am also on rivaroxaban, bisoprolol, levythyroxine, pravastatin, losartan, furosemide. What a mixture - sometimes I think I don't need breakfast!!!!!!
Feel well soon.
Hi DMG, I have learned by trial and error how different we all are, and that one DOAC, anticoagulant, suits one person and not another. I had increasingly negative side effects with Edoxaban and now find Rivaroxaban suits me. I don't take any other meds. Other people will have the opposite experience or drug interactions. If I had changed meds earlier I wouldn't have struggled so much with the loss of normality, now nearly restored. I hope you find the best way forward for you.
AFib often causes tiredness, so this may be an indication that you need more help. I suggest you discuss this further with your cardiologist or GP.
It is more likely to be the Bisoprolol (I also take 5 mg) were you already taking the Biso or first time for both. Biso can make you feel like that. As Polski says Afib causes this so best to ask your medics to adjust your meds.
I understand that bisoprolol brings tiredness according to my relative who uses it, often falls asleep at inappropriate times in the day. I suspect that might be your culprit.
I have been taking rivaoxaban for four years, at the outset I had visual disturbances but that settled after a few weeks, no other recognisable side effects.
Have a word with your medic or pharmacist if in doubt. Best wishes.
Hi Dmg54.
I really wish I had an answer for you - and me! I asked to be changed from bisoprolol because of extreme fatigue and was given atenolol with no noticeable improvement. When I was on Apixaban I also began feeling very weak especially in my lower leg muscles so was changed to rivaroxaban. My symptoms continue. I'm fortunate that I have been in sinus rhythm now for a year but these side effects are very debilitating.
I have an appointment with the cardiologist (at last!) on 16th Feb and am pinning my hopes on this as my GP is very reluctant to change medication.
I do hope you find the correct meds for your own afib 'journey'
I'm learning to be more proactive in getting the right treatment albeit with not too much success! Though I am blessed to still be in NSR.
Good luck!
Val
I felt tired and like I had flu on this, eventually someone believed me and I tried a couple of other anticoagulants
Rivaroxaban did not agree with me. I was only on it 12 days, but experienced very bad pain throughout my body during that period. Drugs affect us all differently. I have recently been taken off 2.5mg Bisoprolol after only being on it for 2.5 months due to 2 "uncommon", (1 in a 1,000 who take the drug), runny nose and exacerbation of Asthma symptoms, and 2 "rare" reactions (1 - 9 in 10,000 who take the drug have these side effects), rashes and itching. I've been off Bisoprolol for 10 days and still getting side effects. They'll go in time. I'm taking anti-histamnes to speed up the process. I prefer Warfarin, as I have my own Coaguchek monitor so can check my INR at any time.
I have now to get apixoban as rivaroxoban does not agree with me.Are there any recommendations for this anti coagulant.
