I was due a long awaited cardioversion next week but last weekend I was so constipated that my waterworks stopped working.Catheter fitted and an enema later I am sitting here in some discomfort.
However I am convinced that the constipation was caused by my taking Amiodarone and/or Renalizine In preparation for the cardioversion so it looks like it wil have to be cancelled because of the very reason that I was taking the medication in the first place!!!
Any thoughts please.

I'd suggest, carrying on with the meds and eating half a can of sliced peaches in fruit juice on an empty stomach every day. Then hopefully your cardioversion which is due next week could go ahead. Or have you already stopped taking the tablets?
Unfortunately constipation qnd retention of urine tend to go hand in hand in gentlemen. Keep well hydrated and lots of fluids ( especially important until catheter out) .Plenty of fruit and veg and seek advice re appropriate aperients if needed. Agree with jeanjeannie50 re carrying on with meds. I thought Ranolazine usually for angina, though constipation is a named side effect as it is with amiodarone.Hope it all settles and cardioversion can go ahead.
Regular hydration is your friend. 2 litres of water a day ahead of the ablation is my suggestion. It's possible your meds trigger a form of IBS (Bisoprolol can do this too). Eat sensibly - veggies, wholemeal grains, fruit and pulses should all be featured in our diet. Lots of people swear by prunes. Personally I found regular hydration and presoaked oatmeal were what made the difference for me. Soak your muesli or porridge overnight. Your muesli should be oats, not wheat based.
Really sorry to hear that. I was sitting in the hospital reception waiting to be admitted for my first ablation and they had cancelled it and not told me. That was due to the anti coags making me bleed, which had made me anemic! Circular problem.🙄 Hope you are sorted soon.
It happened to me exactly that, but because of my incompetent GP increasing the Levothyroxine by 50% plus some Iron pills instead of and Infusion as the hospital did. At the hospital also reduced the L. to the previous doses…and...bingo...
