This is the simplest guide to the basics of reading ECGs I have found:

Fantastic post thank you.

I would caution that at a lecture I went to some years ago on ECG, many of the doctors present provided incorrect interpretation of various traces offered. It is not simple and takes many years experience to understand and accurately read ECGs. As a recent post showed, even Kardia staff make mistakes.

I went to the hospital on Monday where the doctors did two ECGs. As the discharge summary says "suspected stable angina" (not something to relish on top of AF-I bet the two feed off each other), I hope they have made a mistake! I can see-even from the little I know- that interpretation can be a tricky business.

Stable Angina is not an EKG diagnosis. Sounds like someone is ignorant.

I think it can be *part* of a diagnosis. I had a phone call from Barts yesterday and they said that considering all the evidence so far it's still on the cards that it's costochondritis. I will have to wait for the chest pain clinic tests which will include echo, ECG, CT scan, treadmill. Possibly an angiogram depending on what they find.

"Even Kardia staff"! I had to smile there as it seemed somehow an un-Bob like comment. ;-)

True but last week we had a report of a trace being sent off and told one thing and when queried told that was a mistake and a different diagnosis.
