Aching legs and afib

Has anyone has this. I am detemined to beat it but's it's right struggle just now. I try to walk a mile a day - it's hard work though.

The way I feel is s@d it. I'll beat it.

Hi Paul, like you I’ve been around long enough to know that almost all AF related medication can have quite severe side effects but sometimes the culprit for some aches and pains can lie elsewhere. I take Apixaban and Diltiazem and am generally unaware of any side effects but when I had 3.75mg Bisoprolol added to the equation before my ablations, it did sometimes feel as though I was walking through treacle but I’m not sure they ached as such. Do you take other meds like statins or maybe some blood tests to check your thyroid function or just tiredness due to a lack of sleep……hope you get it sorted soon….

Hi PaulI'm on Flec. and 3.75 Bisoprolol. Sometimes my legs come over all weak when I'm walking. Not exactly aching but a strange sensation nonetheless. Do your legs ache at any particular time - in or out of Afib? Perhaps a good idea to check with your Dr anyway.

Hello Paul,Just like you my legs can really get painful when I’m out walking. Unfortunately I’m finding it gets worse for me especially if the weather is warm and I start to over heat. I suspect the dehydration is also having an effect. FlapJacks treacle description sums it up a treat.

For me I’m assuming it’s the side effects of the AF medications I’m taking, Bisoprolol no doubt the main culprit. I’m also taking Flecainide and Edoxaban.

Might be a good idea just to check with your Dr.

If you're on a BB of any type it's likely to be that. I had it when on Bisoprolol. Went with the Flecainide but I know you and Flecainide are no longer friends 😒. I used to find walking on the flat was OK though so maybe try that? It's also OK to go slow and just enjoy the outside air and sunlight. Like a mindful Buddhist walk.

Yes I definitely do! I live by a large wood and walks definitely have become shorter than once upon a time. Aching legs too. I think use it or lose it so keep going but would be interested to see if anyone has any cause noted or countermeasures.

My leg pain was causes by statins. I recently found that remeron (for sleeping) also caused leg pain and swelling. Maybe yor pain is also a drug allergy?

Hi Paul

I didn’t really notice it much on bisoprolol but since starting Ramipril last

year as well, albeit a very low dose, my walking capacity reduced from up to 5 miles a day to 1 or 2. Heaviness in the legs and just generally less energy. Still walking though and as impossible to give up the meds have taken up tai chi to get extra strength in my legs which is working well and with a slower pace of walking has reduced the heavy feeling considerably and improved general well-being. May not be everyone’s cup of tea but works for me. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Do your legs ache just when you walk and then feel better when you rest? Or do they ache all the time? If they ache just when walking, you might get evaluated for peripheral artery disease (PAD). If they ache all the time, as suggested, look at your medications, especially you're taking statins. If so, a medically approved temporary trial off statins might be in order.

Hi Paulbounce, if you're on Bisoporol its probably the cause and also cold extremities. I've now been off it a month and so much more comfortable although night cramps are becoming a problem. Apparently we should all be having three monthly blood test according to the Clinical Pharmacists. Ours went mad, I had'nt had a test since diagnosis in June.

I take Bisoprosolol as pill in pocket and since being dx with paroxysmal aFIB a year or so ago I too noticed painful legs as if my veins ached. The only way to relieve it for me is to wear compression stockings, especially overnight.

Have you considered that the aching feet might be due to something other that afib . It could be vascular or a peripheral neuropacy
