I had an RF ablation at the start of last week but felt, what I thought, was excessive pain in my chest (particularly when lying on my back) 2/3 days after but just stuck with it thinking it was a standard recovery symptom for RF as I’d only had cryo done before.
However on Thursday night I was woken with a severe pain in my chest and left shoulder which even huge amounts of co codamol couldn’t shift so I went off to A&E where they began with an ECG that showed afib before testing my blood and found high levels of troponin, leading them to believe I’d suffered a heart attack (I’m a very fit & healthy, apart from afib, under-40). An x-ray also showed fluid in both lungs while an echo taken later in the day showed pericarditis.
I was admitted and had a few more tests which determined I had an excessive heart rate and heart flutter. Thankfully heart attack was ruled out as the troponin levels were believed to have been caused by the inflammation of the heart. I spent three nights there while increased dosages of bisoprolol brought my heart rate down to a safe level and began a course of anti-inflammatories for the sore ticker.
I’m now back at home and awaiting a cardioversion to see if we can reset the heart and rid it of the flutter/afib but I think what I want to say is, if something doesn’t feel right, go to A&E! I rang the establishment that carried out my ablation and was advised to speak to my GP. I’d have better luck finding a unicorn counting a bag of gold at the end of a rainbow than seeing my GP.

Tough time and very unusual but things do happen. I also had a million to one event after hospital procedure but survived. Take it easy and stay posititve. I'm sure the heart will settle once the infection is cleared up.
Wow! What a time you've had. I certainly go along with what you have said re non delay in getting to A&E if you feel things aren't right.I hope the dccv will now get you back into sinus rhythm and you will feel more comfortable.
You know your body best, well done for trusting your introspection and acting on your instincts. Sometimes it’s a difficult call. Hope you feel better soon.
Oh no. So sorry to hear this. And from a selfish point of view it's a bit scary as I now have aa date for RF ablation number 2. I do recall pericarditis being mentioned in the things to look out for. Fingers crossed you stabilise and appreciate the warning re getting help.
Sorry to hear this. I had an ablations 6 days ago and had hardly no symptoms. My heart has been very calm thank god. I hope this settles for you. Good luck
THANKFULLY YOU ARE DOING BETTER...BUT WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU GO TO YOUR GP AFTER HAVING A CARDIAC PROCEDURE AND HAVING ISDUES/COMPLICATIONS ....TO ME...IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE...THIS MEDICAL SYSTEM IS. S. C. A. R. R. Y!!!
Such bad advice I was told numerous times by the Arythmia nurse not to go to A&E ??? Going with what your body is telling you is the only way Hope it settles soon it’s so complex and unpredictable at times and very frightening x
Hope your ok safc, on waiting list for RF ablation so yeah this is very scary indeed. After you have had the CV did they say when your heart settles you will be rid of AF or will you need another ablation? Get well soon 👌
They don’t know but that’s the hope. After my first ablation I had a CV and it kept me in sinus rhythm for three months but that was for afib and not flutter so I can only keep my fingers crossed
