Getting scheduled for 2nd ablation. I asked the dr if it would be a shorter procedure, as I’m thinking it’s more of a touch up. He said same amount of time. First was 4.5 hours!! Does anyone know how long their second was?
Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone!
DATES I HAD RF ABLATIONS
1. 8th June 2011 – Under sedation - took 3hrs, was sick afterwards.
2. 26th June 2013 – Under sedation - 6 hours and 2 cardioversions.
3. 6th July 2016 – Under GA - 5 hours – heart raced next day so was kept in an extra day until it was normal. My most successful ablation. Had a cardioversion about 6 weeks later.
Too many variables to comment really No 7. Cryo or RF?, GA or sedation ? It all makes a huge difference.
Remember that a lot of the time taken is spent finding the femoral vein and inserting the guide sheath for the catheter and then working the catheter into the right atrium before breaking through the septum to the left atrium. Only when there can they start to stimulate the cells to work out which bits to ablate. Cryo is usually faster as they just insert the balloon into the pulmonary viens one at a time and freeze. RF requires individual spot burns to form a barrier.
You’ve had7? Good Lord! RF under GA. Will go home same day. I was kept overnight for the one I had last year. (Also rf). Thanks and good health to you.
Sorry you missed my oblique refference to "The Prisoner" when I answered you as No 7. Not that I had 7 ablations. "I am not a number I am a free man"!lol." Be seeing you."
Haha went over my head!! Glad you didn’t have to have seven. I hardly have the grit for the second. I have had many surgeries over the years, but still freaks me out a bit each time.
Having had two I really wouldn’t worry about. Your EP is the only person who will clue so be guided by him. Apart from anything else, you won’t be going anywhere once it’s finished either…..good luck!
Thank you. I do trust my dr and he is highly rated. Just hoping not to be out as long as the anesthesia never agrees with me, so figuring the shorter the better. Be well!
Best of luck
I suppose it depends on how much work they need to do. My first one, cryo, was very quick. Just had a RF and I was in and out in about three and a half hours.First one was sedation, second was general anaesthetic. I don’t know if this is a factor
Ist was 1.5 hours, second six, third 4.5 hours. Good luck hope it works for you
Thank you, I hope so to! Be well.
My first (cryo) was 5.5 hours; second one (RF) was 3.5 hours.
