Last night was the worst I've had since the procedure. I was up all night with anxiety, could not get my heart to stop fluttering and just sick on my stomach. Got a little sleep but not much. I wish I never chose to have this procedure done! Feel extremely defeated. I have had reflux most of my life and it has been bothering me more after ablation. I have a feeling that I will need yet another ablation to settle things down.

I know this must be difficult for you but speaking purely for myself, I cannot think of anything more I can say to help. All I do know is that if you do not find a way of controlling your anxiety, your ablation will surely fail. I know from my own experience that if I get anxious or wound up my ticker reacts and I had my last ablation just over three years ago. As soon as I calm down, so does my heart.

Eat little and often, find diversions that will take your mind off the way your heart is working, possibly even take a break from this forum for no other reason other than to take your mind of your heart. Others here may take a different view but if you can not or will not accept that you must give your heart a chance to heal in peace then what will be, will be…….good luck.

Such an interesting point about taking a break from the forum! I find the forum so helpful, but it can also make me obsess more about my heart a bit too much. I found a good balance by setting the notifications up to send me one digest email, once a week. Now I look forward to my Sunday afternoon check-in on what’s new, without getting as wound up. ❤️

You have a point about avoiding the forum. I am being treated for cancer and avoid all the forums, I don't even google as I just don't have the emotional capacity to deal with the mountain of information out there. Everything I read just gives me more fear and more to worry about, and actually, I am doing fine in my little cocoon. I have a very bullish (but honest) oncologist who gives me much confidence. Mightn't be the the right thing for everyone but it is right for me!

I agree Irene, as much as I appreciate what this forum has done for me, I’m also mindful that you can have too much of a good thing. Since my diagnosis I have come into contact with a large number of folk with AF who choose not to use it and they cope exceedingly well. By its very nature, it makes you aware of all the many problems that can be associated with AF and although they may not impact on you, it can play on your mind and most of us know how powerful the mind can be! Knowledge is power but overload can be dangerous, it’s getting the balance right that’s crucial and often that is difficult. I try to limit my involvement to things I know about and very often take time out when my wife tells me I’m spending too much time here! 😉

I hope your treatment goes well, there are so many positive things we hear about cancer treatment these day…..best wishes.

That's understandable MLP.

Accept your anxiety - that's normal enough. Once you beat that fear bubble you'll likely be on the mend.

Once you do this things will improve. Hit it and say to yourself 'come on then lets go' when you feel that way. Who's tougher - you or me ? Enter that fear bubble knowing YOU are in charge.

You are. Believe me.

Good luck sweetheart - you'll be the winner.

Best,

Paul

By the MLP - I've never felt so poorly with a fib as I have done in my life as I have done today. Who's won ? I have - the &&&& won't beat me. My attuide was 'gets go' - bring it on. Get ready go - it works. It will for you ;-)

It takes sooooo much longer to recover than most drs tell us. I’ve had 3 ablations, 2 different drs. The first dr wasn’t much of a listener or empathizer. I’d had it with that dr and switched. The next (and current one) is much more reassuring and prescribes patience and reassurance, that it takes a long time to heal and adjust. And it was his ablation that did the trick for my afib.

Sadly, he couldn’t trigger my other arrhythmia, so meds and patience. Wh3n it starts I relax and take deep breaths, a challenge when you’re anxious and worried! Someone in this community suggested lying down flat on your back, legs up, deep breaths. Works so well for me. Wish I remembered who suggested it, to thank them!

As hard as it is to relax, and all of us here know this, find some ways to relax. Yoga, meditation, a good book, a good tv binge, whatever works for you.

Thank You for your help.

If you have not already done so I would go back to your cardiologist and explain that you are still having problems; ask him what he thinks the cause is and if it is likely to eventually resolve on its own. If not, what course of action does he propose? Basically, you need a short and long term plan of action; in the short term you need help with the anxiety- he should be able to prescribe something to help. In the long term you need to know what is going to be done to resolve the heart problem- do you need another procedure, for example? Once you get a clear plan, that should improve the situation,

I think Flapjack and Bob have it right here. Anxiety will make you feel much worse than you perhaps are. I hope things settle down for you soon. Best wishes.
