I went into hospital for a cryoablation on Friday but was told afterwards that I had had a laser ablation as it carries less risks and is a simpler procedure. Also if I do need a second ablation the success rate is greater. Feel fine...a bit of an ache in the chest and did have Afib episode last night for a few hours. Hopefullythis is quite normal. Anyone else had a laser ablation?

Laser ablation
Isn't this the standard RF ablation - hot instead of cold? If so, it's what I had. Cryoablation uses a balloon and it would not have worked for me as the balloon would have been too small for the conjoined veins entering my heart. 25% of people are similarly plumbed. Cryoablation is relatively new.
If you read the AF Association ablation booklet it covers laser ablation. Quite a new type procedure and ALWAYS requires GA so patient can't move in case of colateral damage.
Well didn't have GA...was sedated. Procedure carried out by Dr,Stephen Murray ...very experienced..at Freeman Hospital in Newcastle..heart specialist centre. Weird that I didn't have GA then.
When I first read this post I googled Laser Ablation and it looked you might have had your ablation carried out at some futuristic engineering establishment!! After further investigation I found this report which makes interesting reading:

Will be interesting to hear how you progress, please keep us informed and good luck.....
Interesting but I did not 'volunteer for this so probably need to explore a bit further why I was given a laser ablation when I thought that I was go in to have a cryoablation.
I was told the opposite that cryoblation was safer than rf
